A Plastik Christmas…

Seasonal clothing doesn’t have to mean Santa Hats and Reindeer horns, sexy fluffy Mrs. Claus outfits and looking like you just fell out of an Igloo.. Aikea Rieko of the Plastik (also here and here) has taken some of her favourite designs and textured them with a whole host of themes, making them wearable for winter and Christmas. She has even taken a number of skins and painted them with Cranberry, Holly, Mint, Candy Cane and Christmas Past themes.

The skins come with matching ears. Price 999L includes one tone, 3 pairs of eyes and several Make-ups. The Cranberry colour is particularly lovely (if a little hard to shoot pictures of) and each skin also comes in a number of makeup styles. She also has eyes which come in a matching pair or available in a prim version. She has shoes, and Arm warmers, Legging,TShirts with funny sayings, Scarves, Lingerie and Dresses (prices ranging around 199L) .

Everything is beautifully textured (& I admire her perfect seams…so hard to do..) Risk City may not be the first place one would think of shooting a Christmas Themed post, but it’s gorgeous and full of interesting spots… (I do look a little Vulcan on the above pic, dont’cha think??) I also found Katey Coppola’s poses (of Glitterati) to be a perfect expression of what I was trying to show..

Identity Crisis!!!

If a shark stops swimming it dies… I think this holds true of SL as well. This might explain why I move about once every 6 months. I knew that I needed to downsize but I didn’t want to compromise (with a lower prim count) what I have come to love about living in a RP sim. So My newly converted Tavern is starting to look Christmassy (I will be showing it to you soon) and my new skybox is built with all the features that I need. I tend to buy my houses but prefer to build my own skybox.

I was going for a clean look with room for an office, a big empty area for pictures, or setting up props, and experiments hehe. I used textures from Insight Designs and a mixture of two different packs worked for me. I also wanted windows and light so I bought light textures and added those to transparent prims. You can actually make these pretty easily in in PS as well as adding shadows (which I am going to try from scratch next..).

I have also been madly reading Tutorials, trying to educate myself as to what goes into making clothes. Who ever knew that seams are so difficult to match? I have been haunting the Beta Test Grid wearing uv maps, trying to avoid the newbies who think they now have oodles of money and want me to tell them how to transfer that money to the regular grid… As you can see I have been neglecting my blogging, oh yes I went to 111… I have been wearing the same outfit by Plastik for nigh on a week now, procrastinating about blogging and at the same time marvelling at Aikea’s texturing abilities. Good thing Rogan Diesel sent me along a couple of new pose packs or I might have not changed, or blogged for weeks (my rule is blog it then change). And don’t think I didn’t know that I looked funny decorating my Tutor style Tavern dressed as a Disco Queen…

Don’t Look Back..

Because of time restrictions, I have been to a large part absent from the Blogging community for the last couple of months. I have shopped on the run, blogged on the run, and basically taken only a passing notice of thing that have been happening. I have noticed a number of changes; some wonderful new bloggers and reviewers, economy making it difficult on our creators with many closing up shop, viewers to a large part 2.2 (viewer drama I did take notice..), A number of alternate virtual worlds garnering notice, INWORLDZ and Blue Mars, just to name a few (I did check out BM at the beginning..), both of which I am planning on making a trip to see. Also a number of creators are opening shops in some of these worlds… Now that I have more time again, I am going to be responding where the winds blow me….

I do miss interacting with many of the creators, builders and bloggers whose work I admire. I still find myself a big fan of the people whose blogs sparked my interest in the first place. I haven’t had time for challenges, or skin reviews (I really miss those!) but I will continue to seek out great builds, and try my hand at learning to make more stuffs!!

One of the Bloggers whose work pulled me into the blogging community is Casja Lillihook. Teamed with Gidge Uriza, their blog, It’s only fashion has always offered a human face to the fashion world. Casja is a smart classy lady who has always managed to speak with intelligence, restraint and grace. I may not have a Mad doctor to send you but I am offering all the best vibes, and prayers for your speedy recovery!

I have been a GIMP user since May 6th 2009. To say that it took quite a while before the program became fairly intuitive would be an understatement. I am glad I stuck with it because I can say that this little program, for all that it is open source and free is almost as good as photoshop. I can say this also because I finally am using photoshop and my transition into using it has been eased by what I learned from the GIMP program. I switched because GIMP doesn’t have quite as many features (no liquify…) I also wanted to learn Illustrator and InDesign which is part of the CS5 Design Suite. And I got tired of trying to translate the PS tutorials into GIMPspeak. I never learned how to expand the GIMP brushes but I did access a huge array of PS style plugins and scripts which have been translated for GIMP.

GIMP was designed initially because there were no powerful Photo editing programs like PS available which worked on LINEX operating systems. It also works on MAC and Windows. Many of the features are the same in GIMP and PS, like the use of layering, ability to use many file formats, colour RGB, Filters etc. (You can even put PS files into GIMP, .XCF is the layered format for GIMPers). It is rather funny because I am still at the point where I am figuring out where everything is in PS and playing with the features. If you have hesitated buying PS because of the price or because you aren’t sure it would work for you, then I highly recommend GIMP. I also can say that you can use it for more than just photo editing and pictures. You can use GIMP to make stuff for SL.The eyes I have been wearing for the last 6 months were made in GIMP by myself. So while I’m still in the whatthehell whereisthatfeature in PS, I thought I’d take a moment and say Thanks GIMP!!!

The House of Munster…

Last year, one of my favourite hairs at the Hair Fair was a style By the House of Munster called Axel. I thought it would be interesting to revisit HOM and check out the hairs this year. This style called Radical I really like and what the style offers are changeable textures, although blonde tends to be my most worn colour I also like the reds and tipped tones. It is also one of the styles which raises money (50% of the proceeds) for the Hair Fair Charity “Wigs for Kids”.

This week was a short one but still it was hell. I certainly felt as though a telephone cord got wrapped around my torso…. I have to thank Ryker Beck (of Exodi) for making dark lips for her new Skin, I always need a skin with black lips, and hers are some of the best I’ve seen!

Whenever I don’t post a slurl for my Location it’s usually because it’s in my backyard. I could take pics here and never run out of places to shoot. I do have to avoid the toxic areas though. Don’t light a match..

I know that I’ve been quiet lately. Busy has a way of doing that… I have been around the grid though, managing to get to some events and some sales. I do like to write and miss putting my thoughts on .. a screen. Ok I know I’m not likely to be the first to wear anything anymore, if I ever was and I miss a lot of what is happening. Truth is I sometimes feel totally out of synch with the blogging world. There are so many new bloggers out there!! I am enjoying discovering them though. But I am missing messing about on my blog…gimping and playing with pictures!

I have had a few little projects, like finally getting my feed reader set up properly. Part of the issue for me is that I do scan the feeds almost every day. But I lose my favourite blogs in the overwhelming mass of blogs posted to the feeds. So, the feed reader is the perfect solution. I still scan the feeds but when I want to leisurely check out my favourites, I go to my feed reader, and they’re there…and growing every day. Like my nose (which I changed).

My favourite blogs are like an old worn out pair of pyjamas. Most have been around for a while, many shoot on location, a lot talk about daily life and how SL fits into the equation. Or they simply have amazing pics. A lot of newer bloggers seem to have appeared fully formed. (As in the fact that they’re good already, not like my initial attempts…) And I’m happy to see that. I am also sad when a blog disappears.. As quite a few have over the last months. To blog a lot, you need to have a fair amount of time. To blog well, you need to have a good eye and be willing to learn. To be a review blogger you need to be willing to keep in touch with creators, be timely in your postings and creative with a multitude of clothes. I am more of a part timer now..

Every now and then I put on a skin which just opens up worlds of possibilities for pictures. Both of these new skins from Aikea Reiko of the Plastik are based on her new release and come in all the tones previously out, with new ones added in the case of the fingerprintz. Poet is an add-on to Lionskins and each make-up comes with all the tones included.Its very exciting when multiple skills, like texturing and colourizing make their way into another skill set (like skinning). Each skin comes in many different tones and makeups and I’d definitely say they are well worth demo’ing. I am also liking the new hairs from Amacci, lovely and soft they are with great flow and movement as well as different textures on the band.And still in love with the hairs which I showed before from Calico Ingmann, with the Lillies this time. The Bikini’s I think were a free gift from a while ago but very pretty and in many colours from Pig. And well worth mentioning, the earrings from Dark Mouse, a group gift but exquisite all the same.

I am feeling pretty good today… Maybe because I have a day off, maybe because I am wearing some of my new favourite things…or I dunno, I just feel like I’m finally getting my Groove back.

I love this skin, its one of the new Pink Fuel Makeups and though I bought three skins, this is my fave. Mochi Milena is not only getting it right with the body and face but she’s quickly becoming one of the better make-up artists in SL too!! The Lingerie is from Oh La La which is a little store I found in Tableau sim, nice hand drawn quality.

The hair is a new offering by Calico Ingmann Designs and this shade is from her Favourites pack, an amazing array of 10 colours for only 200L. The Jacket and skirt are from the new summer line from the Lelutka brand. There are a lot of great clothes and I had trouble picking…. These boots!!! Aw I love these boots from Hoorenbeek, I’m kicking myself now for not buying from there before, really I want more!!!

Whenever life takes a turn to something new, I find myself changing many things in my day to day routines and this tends to affect my SL as well. In my part of the world, people move this time of the year, as soon as the kids are out of school, the moving trucks pull up and large numbers of people are going from one part of the country to another. And so again I have moved in SL. Unlike RL, moving in SL tends to be pretty easy, you need to inform your landlord or estate owner (or sell your property), get all your stuff from the original location, place it in your inventory, make your move, buy your new land….in my case I moved into larger digs on the estate, and voila!

The fun begins when you start decorating. I live in a post apocalyptic sim, which surprisingly gives a lot of leeway with the designs, the only thing you can’t have is a place too neat and tidy or trendy. This kind of sim invites a lot of creativity, there are a lot of bunkers, towers, ramshackle buildings, pretty well anything that would survive a disaster or exist in a desert environment will do. I have been putting together a collection of rustic dwellings, bone piles, windmill and water storage, weird trees etc.which is appropriate to an area called the Fissure!

I bought many of my stuffs, at Botanical Straylight, buildings (windmills etc.) from an interesting builder specializing in rustica…called Never You Mind. (interesting and versatile) bones on XStreet, LC Sculpts,and other items out and about at various stores specializing in all things dystopian. People might wonder why a fashion blogger would pick this sort of place as the inhabitants tend towards the odd and malformed variety but I have found it a perfect contrariness to always trying to get things right. Mainly because the opposite is true here… I tend to build my skyboxes myself and am looking forward to moving on to a texture search…

I have been dressing fairly casual of late and my looks today reflect that. A knock sounds at the front door and the kettle is boiling….

I wrote my first post in this blog September 24th, 2008. At the time I blogged solely for myself. Through the next year and a half I honed my skills, learned a great deal about shooting pics on location, reviewing for designers, attending sales and so many things I could never mention them all. I have gone to fashion shows, multiple fairs and had the privilege to meet and talk to a whole host of talented people. I have seen my share of drama but rarely commented on it and generally gotten more out of blogging than I have put into it. I have learned about editing my work, writing and even the fact that you don’t need very expensive programs to be creative within SL.

I started to learn the process which designers use to create clothes, skins and other items for sale within this virtual world. Second Life can be an all consuming passion, and while I blogged I realized that the demands of this world cannot supersede real life concerns. I knew one day, real life might come calling and I wondered how I would respond to it. I have seen many farewell posts from people too busy to blog, design or be in SL any more. I have always felt sad about this but hopeful as well, as one chapter ends, a new and exciting chapter can begin.

Therefore this is not a farewell post. I am not going anywhere but it is with some regret that I must set aside the review side of blogging, at least for a while. This is not for any reasons of discontent or dislike for the process. On the contrary, if my skills as a blogger have improved I hold reviewing in large part responsible. This type of blogging requires one to be self disciplined, organized and creative. I have thoroughly enjoyed blogging skins, reviewing fairs and trying new looks which maybe aren’t my style but challenge my views. A very wise designer once said to me “ Don’t ever feel you have to blog an item or apologize for being late..” That’s not me I’m afraid. I value the relationships I have built in SL, with our designers too much,to continue to receive items gratis if I cannot promise that I will be able to blog them. Now that I am working full time and spending the rest of my time taking care of my family, I do not have the energy to put in the hours that my style of blogging requires.

I love blogging too much to say goodbye and for me it is something totally mine, a little bit of sanity in a sometimes insane world. I don’t know what the future will bring, I like to think that there is always something new to learn and that moving out of one’s comfort zone can be a very good thing. At the same time …SL and blogging is my cup of tea.

This ensemble by pixivor Allen of ALaFolie, comes with several pieces which allows for a number of different looks. I had some trouble fitting the belt, which I fixed by making my waist slimmer (and I must admit I like the willow slim look).

The hair is an interesting style from Boon and skin is new from Fashionably Dead. I used a couple of different accessories from several jewellery stores. The outfit comes with the sweater and 2 different skirt options. The shoes are included.

Things have been a bit quiet on the blogging front but not because I haven’t been busy. There have been numerous sales, new skins (yay!!) and my inventory is overflowing with new and old things to show you. Said inventory starting to look like plant from Little Shop of Horrors…

Today I am featuring a new couple pose pack by Rogan Diesel of Dieselworks called Best Friends Forever. And I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to show you my new alt. I have been fiddling with her shape and sending her to sales and cheap places to buy clothes. I did buy her one of the new Hounds of Love skins from & Bean which suits her quite well I think. I was going for a stronger less conventionally pretty look.

I bought a bevvy of new hairs for me, my girl alt and my male alt from Boon which was having a sale (I believe its over now). I have been looking for some different styles, and I’m especially happy with the male hairs (I will be showing those later). I also had to get over to Artilleri where I bought some really cute clothes as well as guy stuff (Antonia was having a 50% off sale on red, white and blue!) I am wearing some of my Artilleri finds and my alt is wearing clothes that were all bought on the cheap from !Duh, Glam Affair (discount section) and Cupcakes bake sale. Aside from the skins nothing that I’m wearing was over 80L’s.

Besides my alt’s &bean skin, I am wearing one of Fashionably Dead’s new skins. I couldn’t resist picking up a few of those, as they are some of my favourites. So here I am waiting for the tornado I thought would come, listening to the crickets and looking at my empty wallet!

Every Picture tells a story…

It is only recently, I have noticed that my blogs have a strong narrative or editorial feel to them. I look at an outfit and if I can see a story in that dress or pair of shoes then I just run with it and where I end up no one, not even myself knows. If I can’t see the story then I have to find one… This is probably because of how my mind works, my imagination is often in overdrive. So when I see a new outfit or I open a folder of pieces sent by a designer I often ask myself…where’s the story?…what is the visual that I associate with that piece?

This Outfit is called Bjork, by Ginevra Lancaster, and I realized that I was going for a story which would be open for interpretation. Luckily, I found myself in an amazing group of SIMs created by Bryn Oh (and a number of other Artists of SL, more info here.), some of the most fertile creative minds in SL. The description of the SIMs stated that they are for the Worlds Exposition in Shanghai. This Machinima was filmed in the first SIM, Utopia 01, and is being shown in the Madrid pavillion of the World Expo 2010. “The Event begins May 1st and runs in Shanghi for 6 months. We will be showing Second Life Machinima of these islands measuring 4 meters each” - from Bryn Oh’s profile. I am in complete awe of this woman’s talent, she shows that we have only scratched the surface of what is possible in this Virtual world we live in…

Ginevra Lancaster makes clothes which are dramatic, dressy and stylish, with a strong visual element. Bjork (420L) was fun to work with especially with the EMO-tions hair and new VIP skin from Dutch Touch. I made myself taller and more model’y to highlight better the clothes.

Lionheart Skins

One of the interesting things about skins and skinmakers in SL is that each skinner comes from a slightly different place and has different goals in mind for their skin. This is why we have such a variety and depth to the skins, make-ups and body types. It is also why I like a lot of skins, they give us the ability to create different characters with our avies and match our skins to the types of clothing we wish to wear.

Tones – Legend, Saga, Tale, Fable, Myth, Story. HiDef and backside is regular. in Decembrice (pout). Bloodless Eyes.Matching Elf ears.

I enjoy the style of Aikea Reiko (the Plastik) because she bridges the gap between Grunge, Fantasy, Urban and Roleplay. I traditionally wear lighter to sunkissed tones of skin, but I found myself falling in love with the darker shades of her new Lionheart line. Even if you tend to wear the lightest of skins I urge you to try the demo’s of the darker shades. There is a subtlety to the shades which when added to the tinted Elf ears and glowing eyes, creates an effect which is stunning. And yet I still look like myself.

Overall the body is well shaded and natural. My only criticism of the skin is that the breast area could be softer. The face is strong, with emphasis on the eyes. Aikea’s strengths in texturing really shine here with many non-traditional eye make-ups which are outstanding.There are also several options given for each make up, freckles, pout, shy and bare. There is a lighter and stronger Hi-Def version of each tone.

Rogan Diesel of DieselWorks sent me this set of Couple poses called The Hook Up. 199L per pose. 649L for the set. Afterwards I had to explain to some tourists as to why I was on my roof in my undies, they were worried I might jump. I am not sure how I would have explained these poses … I may have just ruined my stellar reputation in my neighbourhood. I doubt I’ll be receiving any more invitations to High Tea at the local branch of the Historical Society. Oh well!

I hope you will forgive my lapse into Verneness but this Sim, Nemo is pretty amazing. These outfits are by Beautifully Sinister of Ripped and when I dropped into her store during the Faire I knew I wanted to blog some of her clothes. They fall into the Fantasy style but for me I have always loved crossing over in genres, hence the unusual locale. The store features a lovely variety of RP, Gorean, and Medieval Clothing both for females and males. Shoes, accessories and tatts as well. I will be showing you an example of the male clothing soon and I can tell you it’s pretty hot (think braveheart … ). I must also add that I am wearing the new Lionheart skins from Akea Rieko of the Plastik. You will be seeing a full review of these lovelies next week.

Now is the time of year when we, in this part of the planet, start haunting Gardening Centres. After a long (and this year not as bad) winter we are dying to plant, fertilize and weed (the weeding is not my favourite part). I found these pieces in my inventory and loved the casual dressy look. I am also enjoying Dutch Touch’s new Keira Skin and Exile’s new hair Sadie. Pants are by DYN, Top is DK Designs and shoes are by Shiny Things. I like the fact that though the shirt is well detailed, it has no added prim pieces. The pants are simple but well rendered. The shoes match well to the clothes and are the kind that I can see myself wearing both in SL and RL.

RFL Mer-Elf

Today I am showing you a few of the RFL items from Morgaine Price of Mer-Elf Creations. All of these items are exclusive to the fair (though Morgaine has said that she may keep the RFL vendors up in her store for a little while after). That said, they are all available in different colours in her store. She is also opening a new store which she is now setting up for an opening date of May 1st.

Yesterday I found myself walking through the Mer Sim of the Fantasy Faire. This is one of the largest areas, with lots of fins, coral and underwater accessories for sale. When I rented land in the Elven sims, I was lucky to have an area that I could make into a small Mer haven, with coral and fish and a little shell seat.

Below are some of the other pieces for the Fantasy Fair, RFL… Very pretty! When I visited the store Morgaine was having a sale as well . One of the issues with a short fair is that for Bloggers it’s difficult to show everything before the event is over. I enjoy seeing new stores and at this point have not even seen all of the Sims!!

RFL, Rising Silks

One of the joys of blogging for me is sometimes getting called upon to blog something completely out of my comfort zone. What is to be learned about such an experience is that challenging oneself and treating every job in a professional manner teaches one things that cannot be learned if you stick to just what you know. As part of the RFL bloggers, I took a trip over to Miro Collas’s store Rising Silks. I remembered how I noticed that most stores, especially ones carrying silks catered to a mostly female clientelle. This store is mostly male and not only has some pretty well designed silks but also a whole bevvy of male poses.

This set is one of the RFL charity items, Darkness Elemental, and I can say that a great deal has been done with very little fabric! This set is available at the Fantasy Faire and also comes in a female version. The metals and gems are changeable for glow, brightness and shininess. The poses here are by Diesel Works, Dante, and I am glad that I finally got a chance to use them! Like all Rogan Diesel’s poses they are well proportioned and attractive. Shape and skin are Belleza and hair is from Exile.

This set is a special Edition called Mythic White and amazingly is a freebie. (please remember to leave a donation for RFL though..)There is a lot of particle action going on, so it’s not the piece to wear when in a laggy area like The Faire but is a wonderful challenge to photograph! Somehow I am wearing a few of the pieces from the female set of the Darkness Elemental thrown in as well, so this is a combo… One of the great things about silks is that they really show off skins and tatts. The female skin is again the new one from Tuli, Sayuri, great make-up colours and detail throughout! The poses are new by Diesel Works, Scarlett.

Spellbound, RFL Fantasy Faire

Welcome to the 2010 Fantasy Faire!

It would be an understatement to say that Fantasy has been a big part of my RL and Sl. I am a voracious reader of both Sci.Fi and the Fantasy Genres, as well as liking a bit of Gothic/Horror. If I had never stumbled into the Elven Sims and Isle of Wyrms, I doubt I would have stayed long enough to discover all of the imaginative things people do in Sl and I certainly wouldn’t be blogging them. I am part of Evies team of Bloggers doing our best to cover as much of the fair as possible during the one week long event. What is different about this Fair (as opposed to any of the other fairs I have done I the past) is that the official bloggers have been given a list of different stores to blog in the hopes of a wider coverage than is usual at these things. I have had a look at my Sim Avatopia and a quick glance around the rest and the builds are pretty impressive. I am looking forward to seeing it all, wearing low lag and no scripts. As I a writing this I am also at the Faire, and I just won a prize for being the lowest lagster on the SIM!

This dress is by Spellbound and is one of the RFL Charity items. It also comes with a few parts that I haven’t worn in these pics (red top and strings on the corset). The dress is available for 400L and can be found here at the Faire. The necklace is part of a set from HoC. This hair BC322 Ogre Hair, I fell in love with when I saw it worn by Arabella Steadham in one of her posts. I can’t conclude without mentioning the wonderful soon-to-be-released skin from Tuli, you know I love black lips!!

Pose fair 2010

I have to admit, I was late making my way over to the pose fair. I did go with a purpose though and it was to take a look at the group poses and couple poses with the idea of blogging myself and my two new alts. I made these guys a while ago and have been putting their looks together whenever I get a free moment. I picked up a free AO from over at LAP (which is for under 30 days) and started looking out for deals, and ways of outfitting them on the cheap. The girl avie was easy, what with 50L Friday, sales, group gifties, and other various discount deals (like the Dressing Room) I was soon able to skin and clothe her pretty quickly and within budget. The guy was much more difficult. I guess most male Avies know what I’m talking about. There are few sales, almost no discounts and skins are almost impossible to find under 1000L. I did find a lot of freebies over at MADesign and it’s well worth a visit if you are looking to get a start. The best deal in skins is the group gift from Belleza (at 250L group fee) but I already had that one for my other male alt, and I also had a different kind of look in mind for new guy, something in between aging rocker and messy slacker… The skin I found at LAQ and it has a lot of options in the facial hair dept. Most of the look came from Aitui (yay I’ve been wanting those ear plugs!!) with the boots from Cheerno (a group gift).

In order to make this pose fit I had to do several things; I had to make him shorter and us gals taller. I had to put us all on different viewers (Snowglobe, Emerald, Kirstens). I kept the windows minimized except for the one I was working on. My viewer was on ultra graphics, the others were on low. I was surprised because I had no crashes and the pics all turned out fine. It is important to be on a stable viewer and no 2.0 versions until the bugs get worked out. I had found lots of stuff at the pose fair and still have lots of poses to try out. Poseballs can be edited which allows a lot of leeway with what you end up with and all in all, though the setup was longer, the experience was a lot of fun.

Japanese fishing village…

All three posts feature the Japanese fishing village, Japan Dream Kenjin , which is chock full of places to take pictures. This outfit is pretty typical of Japanese designers, pretty, well textured and very wearable (Umi Usagi). Shoes are a new offering from JD Design. The necklace from A La Mood, which comes also with earrings. Hair corsage was featured in the last post (Lika Ruby) and is colour change. The cute hair style is from I Love Olive. I have been playing around with Gimp and some of the add-on, scripts and plug-ins. If you work at all with GIMP these extend the functionality of the program.

Pretty Flowers…

This post and the former one features a new skin from Rockberry called Lily, it is a very smooth and pretty skin with cleavage options included. Whenever I take a holiday, I return relaxed, refreshed and somewhat out of the loop as to what’s going on… This time it’s no exception. Which is why I am showing you over the next few posts a couple of dresses I picked up at the Tokyo Sim of the RFL Clothing Fair. Late though they be I thought them worthy of posting since Japanese designers don’t always get a lot of coverage in the western feeds. This dress reminds me of something one could wear on the Orient Express. The hat comes with hair included and there are a number of ways this dress could be worn.

RFL and Solange…

I’ve been wearing this outfit by Solange for a few days now and though I normally don’t wear silks, this example is particularly fine. The mechanical bits actually move and the fit and finish are wonderful. This version is exclusive to the RFL Clothing fair, as it’s for charity but there are many other colours available as well. Solange is located in the Paris Sim at RFL. I found that the lag was not bad at all while walking around most of the sims. If you haven’t been over there its well worth a visit. There are many interesting things to see and do, with Fashion shows and DJ’s playing music. As of now 3.5 Million Lindens have been raised!!!

Hair is new by Exile and gives a nice windswept look. Skin again is by Tuli, Eva, I will admit that while walking around I keep admiring my own butt!! Tuli’s new store is now up and running, and looks great. Designed around a fantasy theme, its set up in the sky with Elymode and LaForgia Jewels. Skins are available in 7 tones and 10 make-up choices. 1000L per skin. 4950L per tone.The boots are by Earth and Sky Design and are perfect… The poses are from Striking Poses. I was sad to hear that Zelly Mornington is closing her shop and sim. She is a very talented posemaker and let us hope that she will regain her health and return to SL one day. She will be missed! Until the sim is sold her posepacks are for sale at 50% off.

Today I am showing you a couple of things recently released by the Plastik, Dark Mouse and soon to be released, Tuli. I am also enjoying these runners from HoC called Swypes. This is a reasonably priced shoe, with texture change options. I had fun with HoC’s earrings too, pickles and advocado’s! As always the textures in the Plastik’s, Recluse collars, Tomboy T’s and Fierii leggings are superb. An interesting choice with the leggings is that you can wear one layer (underwear) or two (underwear and pant) and you will get different effects. I am also wearing the bra tops from the Valerian set which are lovely and versatile. Tuli’s new store should be open today, but at this moment is not. And her new skins will then be released. I have always been a big fan of her skins and Tuli’s Eva is very nice indeed. Beautiful make-ups!! These creators are my Creme, and I thank them for their creativity!

RFL Clothing Fair

Sometimes I dream that I’m falling through the sky. I keep falling and falling and I know that when I hit the bottom I will be gone. Before that happens I always wake up, or surprisingly I pick myself up and keep on. I used to think that Cancer happened to other people. People in my family had heart attacks, and I would look at those who were fighting Cancer with sympathy but not a lot of understanding. My ignorance protected me but didn’t let me see the truth. We are all touched by this disease, and if you haven’t yet had to deal with it you will one day.

I was privileged to get a sneak peak at this years Relay for Life Clothing Fair. I have not yet seen it all, and have only taken a quick look. A lot of love and care has gone into the SIM designs and the stores themselves. RFL is one of those movements which mirrors efforts in RL to raise money in RL for Cancer. Each designer, creator or builder has put a lot of volunteer hours into making the fair a success. Designers make clothing, of which 100% of the proceeds go to Cancer related organizations. The Sims are designed around real life places, and I have to say I was impressed by the detail and thought that went into the design. I will be popping in and out over the next few weeks and I hope that you will take some time to visit, buy some of the Donated clothing and remember that we can be empowered by the choices we make.

A note about Lag. We all hate it, and I was lucky today not to have to strip down because the Sims are fairly empty. When I come back I will be wearing my usual lag free stuff. Things which cause the most lag are scripted items, like hair (resize script) and Shoes (resize again) heck anything resize…AO’s, Colour change, Bling (which we love so much..) and radar. As well anything colour changing like jewellery, or shoes. Since everyone ends up as a grey mass anyway, it really doesn’t matter what you wear or look like. Lowering your graphics also helps as well as using a box to get around (it says building and rezzing not allowed but maybe they will rezz some boxes for use..).

Every now and then I like to drop into Fabulous fashion with Angie Mornington, on Mondays at 6SLT @ Northpoint Studios. Besides interviews, its nice to see a designers clothing on the model and hear something of their thoughts about their clothing and what they were trying to achieve with it. As well you can hear about their own experiences within SL and what drives their desire to create in a virtual world. Eboni Khan has been in SL since 2004, so she has some interesting things to say about her experiences. This dress really stood out for me as a really fine example of her work.

Being in the audience also has its perks, there usually is a gift of some sort for the audience and Eboni generously gave everybody a gift card for her store. This Necklace is one of her jewelery pieces and works really well with the Boho look I was trying to achieve.

I love anything that reminds me of the 60’s and this dress is very well designed with all the things I like in a dress, cleavage and versatility! The necklace is by Secret Serenity (Dearly Beloved Set) and works well with the ensemble. After putting together this look, I realized that the dress could be styled many ways, leather boots or net stockings, a belt or sweater would all look good.

Rockberry has a pretty new skin called Luan and I thought it would be cool to shoot some pics in a Japanese Sim. Neo Osaka fit the bill perfectly, it has so many interesting spots to visit, with a mix of business and pleasure….

Luan comes in 4 tones, light, natural tan and dark, with 6 make-ups and freckles available as a separate skin. Rockberry has some of the nicest freckles on the grid, and all skins have a cleavage option with the skin. Each skin is available for 450L (with light and dark eyebrows) or in a full pack of light (or dark eyebrows) for 1250L. Freckled skins are 300L per skin and 1250L for the 6 make-ups. I am also featuring some new items from Luck Inc. The sweater and super short skirt are available in lots of colours.

This vest is from Milk Motion. I love the furry appearance even though it is horribly difficult to shoot pictures of clothing with sculpties on the body.The pieces move every which way, and so many poses just do not work. Love soul is best known for the many prim nail styles but there are also some well designed hair styles to be had. Black colour in hair can lack texture but this one is well detailed and easy to see.

5th&Oxford

What better way to show off the new Lingerie from 5th&Oxford, than to pair them with the new skins, Brooke? Brooke is available in 5 different make-ups, each with their own personality. I have included my favourites, each gorgeous in their own way. You may have noticed some of these in some of my posts. Nightfall has great Smokey eyes and dramatic lips. Rebel/Rebel’s eyes are strong but masterfully shaded with strong lips. Kitty has cat eyes and I love the freckles. Natural and Subtle are more low key, letting the shading and tone speak. Like all skins by Roslin Petion and CJ Carnot, they photograph beautifully and have quality all their own.

The new Lingerie, The Tease comes in brilliant colours and numerous options. As Lingerie, these pieces work very well, and they are designed in such a way that they can be paired with different outfits, shirts etc. The gloves alone come in 3 lengths so they can be added to different looks. I can see the underbust corset being lovely paired with a shirt and bra or corset also. The basic lingerie set comes with bra, panties and garters and a pair of stockings that are nude and matched to the colour. In one of the pics I used a pair of stockings from another set and they worked too. It’s important to note that all of the Tease items are available in copy/mod and trans versions, so you can also gift them.

I have included a new piercing set by Aydan Darcy of HoD. The three textures come with male and female versions. A note about the picture below…. I TP in clothed, found a quiet spot, shot the pic and hightailed it out of there asap. Some nudest I’d make…

Whenever I blog new items I usually try to find a sim which follows the theme of the clothes I am wearing. This is why I took myself over to Insilico, which if you’ve ever been there is/was a gritty nightime futuristic city. Well, no more. La Maison de la Couture

Rajae Diavolo of La Maison de la Couture makes clothing that tends to follow a theme. This outfit is very tropical so naturally, in my quest to find places in sl which match the clothes, I found myself in Polynesia.

All of the pieces are part of one outfit which can be mixed and matched according to taste. Needles to say, this may be a response to cabin fever but I seem to be encountering eyes everywhere I go!!

The earrings and shoes are from G Field, matching the theme perfectly, and were reasonably priced at 150L. The hair is one of my favourites from Zero Style. Skin is Gwen from Dutch Touch and I added the glow Studio eyeliner.

Two Fish..

Two Fish, Cariacou is the unlikely name of this intriguing sim. Vive VooM and Rose Borchovski are the fertile minds behind this growing Art Landscape. It is by no means finished but what I’ve seen of it is full of creative energy and eyeballs!! I’ve often imagined what I could do if I had a whole sim to build on and play with….the possibilities are endless. Seeing this kind of creativity is one of my favourite things about SL. I just can’t imagine this anywhere else.

This lovely dress is courtesy of La Maison De La Couture. I must admit that it has been in my inventory for a while, it is easy to get backlogged with items to blog. I will also have some new spring items by Rajae Diavolo, of La Maison De La Couture to show you in a little while. The dress was a gift from the “Spanish Lullaby” series of clothing, inspired by the design and spirit of Spain. Most outfits come with a number of pieces which allow for several different looks.

Walking into Bentham forest you walk into a fairy tale, with light streaming down, strange paths and haunting sights like an illustration by Brian Froud. Careful where you walk, you may just wake something up…..

This utterly sweet look is courtesy of Aikea Rieko of the Plastik. The Ellantha dresses come with various options for the top and skirt and all of the pieces work very well together. And there is a very good reason why Curio skins have such a loyal following, details are exquisite. You may notice in the top right picture that I am wearing one of the new Luck Inc. breast enhancers for Curio skins…

This hair is another one of my finds from W&Y, the bow was perfect for this dress and is texture change. The lovely lip rings and collar are from Dreams and lip rings have a number of different charms to choose from. The collar was a gift from the I<3 originals Fair.

No Save Haven

This new dress Rhapsody, by Delora Starbrook of Haven Designs is something of a departure from her usual line of silks and lingerie. I have always enjoyed the quality of her work and I love the design of this one. Extremely versatile, it works with fantasy, goth, steampunk and dress up. Besides black the dress comes in 6 lovely colours.

Scanning the feeds a few days ago I noticed that Waka & Yuki, had opened up a new mainstore, and meaning to visit for a while, I took a trip only to find that there were goodies!! There is a dollarbie, and also was a secret sale with 10 free hairs throughout the store. I say “was” because the sale is apparently over. The store is large and easy to navigate and there is a huge range of styles within, with everything from hair that would fit a child avie to high fashion. Hair is regularly priced at 200L for 4 shades of one colour. Haus of Darcy has a cute new set called Hopeful and Hopeless with necklace and piercing. Hair Corsage is by Atomic Bambi and is colour change (12 colours) and though Valentines is over, this accessory I could see wearing for many occasions, (plus I love flowers). The skin is Curio’s Cupid, which I added a tear from glow Studio. Although I don’t wear Curio as my main skin I love these skins for anything fantasy…

Trubble in London

I have been to a number of weddings over the years and while the bride and groom have changed (and so often divorced), and the locations differ, certain things tend to bring about a distinctive sense of deja vu. There will always be a drunk relative who will think they are the worlds best dancer (oh you know who you are!!). There will be a person chosen to make a speech who thinks they are Jay Leno, but isn’t. The Bride will be stressed to the max about the party favours, the groom, seriously thinking of making a mad dash for freedom… and several groups of family and friends who don’t know each other only knowing one of the wedding party, and one or two guests no one knows. At our wedding we had my mother-in-law’s hairdresser!! There is one common denominator in all these events, including my own wedding and every other wedding I have ever been to….My feet.

My feet don’t like weddings. They don’t like high heels. In SL I can manage because soreness doesn’t come into the equation. But in RL my feet have problems. When there is any kind of event where high heels must be worn, I always bring a backup. Running shoes or flats I bring to wear in the car, in between the service and the reception (which is often a couple of hours spent at a house or a bar).
When I first saw this dress from Trubble it reminded me of the kind of dress I buy for an event like a wedding, simple, fun and great for dancing (ok maybe I’m that relative …) and these high tops remind me of just the kind of footwear I bring to put on after the formalities … I am not including those crippling shoes that I have shoved away in a box which if I wore them everyday would be responsible for bunions and an operation requiring me to stay off my feet for 3 months…

Rogan Diesel of Diesel Works passed me along a new couple pose set called “Don’t forget your Valentine”. The set comes with BMX Bike (stationary with poses), wall poses (pose balls, wall has diff textures) and just poseballs (no wall) – 799L (group members get 200L discount) {R}. Poses can and should be adjusted to get proper positioning. Just a note that I took these pictures with two viewers running and though, like everything else in SL, there were issues with the viewers and pictures acting wonky, it was a lot of fun. Qwynne was being snooty about helping so I treated him to a new skin, Thomas (from Beleeza group gift with group join 250L) and clothes from Artilleri. I matched the skin with Alyson (also Belleza), and some items from 50L friday, as well as various others. Qwynne has been rattling his cage lately so I think I should let him out more often.. Lately I seem to be traveling a lot in SL and I find myself visiting places on my bucket list…today it’s Venice.

When I first saw this Jewellery set from Kesseret Steeplechase of KessKreations (Jewellery and Wedding Acessories) and Hilarious (Clothing), I was a little baffled as to how I’d show the set to the best advantage. Then I saw her lovely Cocktail dress and I knew a plunging neckline would be perfect. Hair can be a challenge with jewelery as it so often covers the earrings so this cheeky short style from Calico Ingmann Creations is very pretty and worked. I have been planning on buying these boots from J’s for a long time and they add a little funky the look. Beautifully textured and detailed, these boots.

The Set is customizable, with options on the metals, pearls and gems, so it can be matched with a lot of outfits. Pieces are gorgeous with a high degree of detail. I have had a problem in the past with disappearing prims on jewelery and hair. If this is a problem for you follow these steps;
Show “Advanced” menu with Ctrl-Alt-D, or Opt-Ctrl-D (on a Mac), select Debug Settings (near the bottom), in the blank space copy and paste (or type) the word RenderVolumeLODFactor - set as high as 4 to make sculpted prims appear as they should. Then set RenderMaxNodeSize - 9001

I am also wearing another skin from the Brooke line from 5th&Oxford, Kitty. I love the freckles on this one! One of the problems when I find an outfit I really am enjoying blogging is that I have to take it off to move onto the next one…

Sand & Surf Co.

While walking through the I <3 Originals sim on Saturday, I realized that many of the designers were ones that I enjoy blogging. I thought it would be nice to give them all a little thank you this week by featuring some of their stuffs.

Emma Gilmour of Sand & Surf Co. probably epitomizes to me what is meant by an original. Her work is hand drawn and if ever you wondered what the difference between photo sourced and hand drawn is, then take a look at her jeans. They are just a superb rendering of textures, light and dark, with all the appearance of having been washed multiple times. Then get in close and you notice that everything is drawn by hand! This pose is from Glitterati, one of the second Headshot series.

I am featuring skins this week from 5th & Oxford, and though their stuffs aren’t in the fair, Roslin Petion and CJ Carnot’s skins have always been such an excellent example of skins that though hybrid, still rely on hand drawn quality.

Dark Mouse also has some new stuffs which are featured at the fair. The beach bag is full of detail and perfect for one who doesn’t pack light! The Jewellery set is very pretty, I love the blue-silver combination. And the belt is very well textured and fits over the hips (and I don’t change my shape for anything…face yes but shape no..). In light of a certain win I thought it would be nice to take a walk through N’Orleans. If I ever get there I would think this outfit perfect for strolling down Bourbon Street.

Some might say, that there is nothing new. That everything which was will be again, and all ideas are just re-hashes of ideas which were thought of by others back in ancient times. It is ironic then that in imitation often comes innovation, and the new comes from each generations attempt to come to terms with the past.

What then is originality? Why do we grab onto something which is only an idea, a thing, a picture, a thought? What is there about a particular moment who’s time has come? I have often wondered about this. This thing is part of everything we do, our choices, how we live our lives and it seems sometimes that we are judged more harshly for choosing our own path. I have great admiration for the originals of this world, for those who are outstanding in their field because so often they are left standing alone.

It is not for me to tell you what to think. I am not so much of an expert on these matters to even attempt to guide you, because it’s not really what we think that matters, it’s what we do. We lose too much of ourselves to the demands of society, we give away pieces of our soul, to pay our bills, feed our families and find acceptance in this world. So my thoughts right now are this; to be original, just be yourself. Nothing more is needed.

Continuing with my earlier post… I am loving this hair from Truth, Danielle. The eyes are from Chai, they have a lighted prim attachment that gives a little bit of soul (called a soul prim).

This new pose set from Diesel Works is very expressive, with fairly complex body movements beautifully rendered. I am still loving Atomic Bambi - Apple’s red lips, perfect for Valentine’s Day (or Anti-Valentine’s). And all the Jewellery from Eolande comes in various metals and has colour change gems. The Glazed Heart set comes with two necklaces, one transfer, perfect for gifting!

There is a cute Candy Heart set in Eolande’s with the Mouth Candy set up as a Gatcha in a vendor. 25L gets you a random (and transferrable) Candy with saying, some nice…and some not so nice! There is also a hunt with bracelets from the sets that I am showing you, as the prize. Below is a very nice Valentine’s set called Heart’s Devotion. If you are wondering, I am laying in a bowl of soup I came across in the Lemondrops Forest. There is a hunt going on at this time..

I have a lot of yummy new things to show you, and because I didn’t want to leave anything out, I’m going to spread it over two posts. I will present new skins from Atomic Bambi, clothing from DYN, jewelery from Eolande, poses from Diesel Works, Truth hair, and shoes from 2Real footwear.

I started with the skins from Atomic Bambi. I have reviewed skins from this brand before, and I wanted to see if these were a new skin or just a re-do of make-ups. I compared the skins with the first skin I reviewed, Lana, which I liked and wanted to see if I preferred these new skins.

The new skins still resemble the Lana skins and the overall personality is still the similar but there are many changes throughout, from the lips, which are fuller to the belly button which is smaller. The eyes are also better shaped and face, which has a soft rosy glow has a smoother texture. There are more highlights through the body and less heaviness in the shadows. I have to say that I prefer the new Apple skins. With the opening of her new store in La Circque sim, Atomicsparke Skytower is selling a special make-up (La Circque) which comes in the three tones available, Pale, Sunblush and Tan.

There are five make-ups available with a number of options, from no gloss, to glossy, and freckles as well as eyebrow colours. My favourite make-ups were ocean with glossy lips and Siren with no gloss. Atomic Bambi skins still have some of the nicest red lips I have seen. Throughout these posts I am featuring new jeans and tops from DYN, new and nearly new Truth hair (I haven’t been over there for a while and it’s a very busy store), a couple of Jewelery sets from Eolande and a great pair of runners from 2Real footwear. These shoes come with a HUD which makes it possible to customize the colours and they are very realistic. As well I am featuring a new set of poses by Diesel Rogan of Diesel Works, Piper.

A Valentines Bazaar….

When I received a notecard from Mochi Milena, of Pink Fuel to her update group about a hunt and Valentines Bazaar, I had to check out the Bazaar. Items are Valentines themed and 50L. There are some great deals here, with many well known stores participating like Nomine, Sn@tch, Pink Fuel, Emjay, as well as a number that I am not familiar with.

Everything shown in these pictures are from the sale and although pink and red are unavoidable, I tried to stay away from outfits that couldn’t be worn again after Valentines day. The Sn@tch Bloomers are very sweet as well as the jewellery and the skins from Pink Fuel are a steal at 50L each.

The jeans from Nomine are quite nice though I removed the prim cuffs from the bottom for this shot (they tend to move around). Hair and shoes are from Nushru which is a new to me store. I couldn’t resist this skin from Moustache, very pretty! The necklace is also from Nomine and comes in several colours. Pictures were shot at the new sim, Cheesecake which is right next door to Cupcake. It is the new location for Milk Motion, Oh Mai and Tiny Bird amongst others.

Follow your Bliss..

Amutey DeCuir, of Bliss Couture is well known for the beautiful design of her gowns and anyone who has been to the 2010 – The Future is now exhibit at Rezzable Greenies will have seen her outstanding entry, Xenaah. What is also apparent is that she takes this attention to detail and meticulous style to all of her designs. I am showing two of her recent releases *, each very different but lovely nonetheless.

A couple of days ago, I was researching my last blog and the store I wanted was in Harajukubox shopping area. The area was closed for a redesign and I was happy to see that it has quickly re-opened. It is an interesting shopping area with several levels and many of the old stores from the sim and some still setting up. Another note; you are a lover of sales and Tattoos then you will love this sale at HUZ tatts, needless to say I am now full of new Tattoos and looking for opportunities to wear them!!

When Harper Beresford mentioned this Sim, China, in her Blog, A Passion for Virtual Fashion, I knew I just had to check it out. It’s beautiful and moody with lovely tonal effects throughout. Skin is the new offering from Iki Ikarus of Dutch Touch. It’s a rare thing for me to buy a fatpack of any skin but in the last week I bought both Gwen and Sjors!! (to my wallets great dismay…) These skins have great versatility, being wearable for both high and casual fashion looks. All the poses I have used here are from new to me pose store called Everglow, very expressive poses!

Skin Within Meets Bladerunner City..

When I first saw these skins by Ayesha Bisiani over at the site for the Future is Now, Greenies Home Rezzable, I immediately thought of all the original Star Trek Heroines. Wild women with coloured skins who would either be trying to kill or seduce Captain Kirk (no accounting for taste, I know.." “I love you, now I must Kill you!!!!”). These skins are exquisite, with saturated hues and jewels incorporated into the design. But the challenge for me was to somehow make them my own in such a way as I would be comfortable wearing them. The Magika hair works because its wild without chopping into my shoulders, and the Camisk from Analise, and Hybrid Neko Stuffs which I have had for a while, fit perfectly. I also thought some Lazy Places Footwear would be right and I found these great Paws which I just love!

I took a journey over to Bladerunner City, which is an amazing build, full of Space themed details and really interesting. I will be going back to explore further… When Rogan Diesel passed along this pose set, Fight Me, he did so with a bit of a sheepish laugh, “It’s kinda Silly, don’t feel you have to blog it..” But the truth is that it was absolutely perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed shooting the pics. Sometimes poses can be too static and so bringing in some action was a lot of fun. So Panther lady is off to find her space captain where she will undoubtedly be heard to whisper….“Dahling, watch out for those claws, I must groom myself, What???”

G.Sloane Review

It is always interesting to try to match a location to a particular outfit and so when I received this dress from Geryn Sloane I thought I might just see what I could come up with. Lonely Star is one of those sims where the weather is always changing. Lightning, rain and snowy forest with paths leading around a lake. The dress, appropriately named Fragile can be worn several ways and worked well in a sim where Winter reigns but spring is poking its head.

G.Sloane is a store that has a nice balance of clothing, from casual sweaters to dresses of all kinds. I am wearing the new skin Gwen (and yes I noticed there is another new skin) from Dutch Touch. The shoes are from the sale at Aoharu where I picked up a bunch of shoes and boots. Hair I picked up at a 50L friday and a note to all lovers of sales; Autumn Hykova is having a sale right now, 50% off all hairs. She will be shutting down her store for a day or two over the weekend in order to retexture her hairs. I am looking forward to seeing the new textures!! (Not sure if the sales are still on as I wrote this post several days ago.)

Pacadi Jasha

Maria (From the Sound of Music)

This Sim and outfit reminded me of Maria in the sound of music and I had to restrain myself from running up and down the mountains and singing “the hills are alive”. So instead I imagined myself as a modern version of her. This outfit from Pacadi has been blogged already and me being a slow blogger will not repeat the praises except to say that I love the blue/black combo and simplicity of the design. The Hair (to be released soon), the glasses and the bag are also from Pacadi Jasha Ltd., with the bag full of items if you look inside. Prayer ~ Plastik, Exile, Dieselworks, Tuli 2

More newness at The Plastik! This outfit, Prayer is an interesting mix of texture, design and is pretty versatile if you wanted to mix it up a bit with other pieces. Tons of choices for colour and texture as well (there’s 26!).

Rogan Diesel of Diesel Works sent along this pose set called Celeste. As a Blogger I rely heavily on poses as does anyone who photographs in Second Life. If you have ever made a pose,(I occasionally will fool around in Quavimator) then you know that posemaking is deceptively simple. Because the Avatars we use don’t really work like Humans in the natural sense, a pose which will work for us (RW) often will not look natural in SL. Arms, bodies, necks and torsos can appear twisted parts can intersect strangely and a picture that you may have been using as a reference just won’t translate. I must admit that many pose packs I own will even have these flaws. This is why you will often notice us bloggers reusing the same poses or sticking to just a few posemakers. I really enjoy working with these poses from Diesel Works. They are natural looking with subtle touches and proper use of body positioning. Diesel Works also has very nice couple poses and props, chairs etc. all incorporating this same aesthetic.

A little while after Tuli Asturias first released her Bella skins, she released this set of “Specials” FYEO (For Your Eyes only) and another set (which I have featured) FYLO (For Your Lips Only). I love the deep yet subtle colour in these makeups. They are available in a pack of 4 make-ups per one tone, with cleavage options and brow options. Amelia , from Exile is the hair style I have used for this and my previous post. It has just the right amount of messines and texture.

Courtesan ~ The Plastik 1

I have a couple of things from The Plastik to show you, so rather than serve it up in one post I thought I’d split it up into more digestible pieces.

When I first took a look at this dress, Courtesan, I was taken by the richness of colour and texturing. Tuli’s recent Makeup from Bella, (for your eyes only) was a perfect foil and the new style from Exile, Amelia also complimented the look. As always the dress is available in multiple colours and textures.

I wanted to find a location which also bled colour and found the new Ozimals sim. This sim is beautifully designed around the whole Bunny phenomenon, with little homes and georgous garden accents (Velveteen Garden Store). It is worth a trip even if you are not into raising Bunnies.

I must admit to something silly. Whenever I am blogging, (which is always) I tend to wear whatever I am working on until the blog is done. That way I remind myself to finish and I have on the clothes, if I need to check back on them. I made a funny comment on Plurk about running around in my undies and Ivey Deschanel kindly passed me some clothing from Sn@tch to save me from my unclothed state….

Sn@tch was one of the first stores that I ever blogged (week 6 Kitteh parts) and though I had no idea what I was doing at the time it did reflect my taste, which was streetwear and urban grunge. I was a loyal member of the update group and with my old and fairly challenged computer I would gamely arrive every week to try to find the hidden hunt items. Cursing and grumbling and nursing a headache by the time I found the hidden gems, I would also look to see (and buy) what new items were instore. Ivey has continued to grow and develop her talents, the store has moved and is larger and well laid out..(No more headaches..) If I am looking for something in the urban, streetwear mode I know I can always find what I am looking for at Sn@tch. (I am a little late in blogging these, most were released in December.)

Unmentionables - those articles of ladies' apparel that are never discussed in public, except in full-page, illustrated ads. ~Changing Times

Recently I received a folder of new items from Pacadi. Since Lingerie is a new venture for the designers of this line of clothing, I thought it would be nice to take a look at these plus other “Unmentionables” in my inventory. All are nicely textured and well deserving of mention. Since I love to shoot on location, I thought it would be fun to find an empty sim and see what I could come up with picture wise. Bra set is by Pacadi, Tattoo Luck Inc., Skin Exodi and Hair Lamb. Earrings by Rising Star.

The lovely set by Reasonable Desires matched well with the new Pacadi Belt , Tatt by Pididdle, Shoes Biaistice, and Skin Group Gift from Belleza.

This bodysuit from Luck Inc. (Linc) comes in a bevy of colours and matched with Leafy set from Illusions, Hair from OH, Skin from Tuli (group gift) and shoes from Maitreya. Below was a gorgeous sale item from Zaara which I bought a while ago, hair by Simply Brittney, skin by Cupcakes, necklace from Sparkle fish.

All pictures were taken at Bliss Gardens Park SIM. The sim is designed around a cave theme, with gardens permeating the trails and some very unusual vegetation. It is also a sim which is welcoming to new players with tents set up for camping, and you can set it as your home location by joining the group if you are homeless. (no rezzing though). Poses used were by Juxtapose and LAP.

In Small Packages….

It was recently pointed out to me by a posemaker that we as bloggers do not always give the makers of poses the credit that they deserve. We go into great detail about the clothes, hairs and even the locations saying little about the poses which we rely on so much. With that In mind I hope to talk a little more about the posemakers that I use in future. This poseset is by Essential Soul Studio ‘n Poses, called Her Walk, and is nicely porportioned and versatile. 350L. The store is laid out to easily find what you’re looking for with single poses, sets and group, as well as other items for sale.

It takes a truly talented designer (Aikea Rieko of the Plastik) to be able to take a very simple design, add a few textures and end up with a piece which looks as though it has a lot of added prims but really doesn’t. The economic use of prims and rich texturing means that you can pose this dress every which way and it still looks good. I must add also that every texture looks unique and this is only a sample of what is available. Dress comes in Belt/no belt option and leggings. 249L.

The Skin is new from Heather Beebe of Rockberry, Jules. It is available in 4 Tones, 12 Makeups and enhanced cleavage. There are some features which make this skin different, the nose is narrower and the face has a narrower shape, the lips are quite generous and well defined. Overall this skin is quite pretty and I will be looking forward to seeing the freckled version which is still being worked on. Also it should be noted that Rockberry is a reasonably priced skin, 1 Skin in one tone is 450L, Fat Pack of 1 eyebrow/1tone is 1500L and lt/dk eye/1 tone is 3000L. The necklace is from HoD (Haus of Darcy). 3 colours plus several options 249L ea colour.

New Kalnins Boots Snowdrift may still be on sale to subscribers (400L) 800L Reg price. This boot is delicate and can be customized for colour, and size. The textures are very realistic. SD wears has a new boot called funeral which is on sale for a limited time, 100 boots for 100L. The boot is high, black and great for stomping. The boots by Courtisane I bought at the shoe fair, the colour is no longer available but this shoe (at regular price) is still for sale.

In the beginning….

If ever an award be given for the noobiest noob, I would be high on the list. I am always amazed that so many Avies started with help of any kind, walking away on the first day with new skins and clothes… My first day in SL started like this. Download client, make account (this is May and things are going well so far..) Arrive on Orientation Island…wow a Segway…try to change my appearance, make myself 8 feet tall add weird textures and a hilarious hairstyle (didn’t know you could get clothes, hair etc..)then crash and realize my puter could not handle the graphics. Attempt # 2 September (new puter)… Log in and notice my 8 foot tall ugly clothes, try to look better, do a tutorial…hey I’ll click on this…realize I’m sitting in Linden land next to a Balloon Tour (it takes me 3 days to figure out how to do the tour…). At this point I couldn’t get back to Orientation Island so I went to help Island…someone gives me hair and a lot of landmarks (thanks to that mentor of long ago..). I then proceed to hit every single freebie place on my list and I end up with 3K of junk. During this time I am bumping into the oddest assortment of noobs, greifers, naked penisis and people getting dressed etc. (I take an instant dislike to an Avie with moustache, glasses and yellow sweater…different guys but same idiot..) I am dressing on top of buildings and mountains and starting to explore. I made this Elf/Hobbit because I wanted to be left alone to explore and not have offers of Cybering every 5 minutes. It worked!!

By this point I was discovering good places to shop, Hair Artilleri, Skin Gala and clothes Torridwear. My pictures though consist mainly of me sitting, flying…no poses or AO. One of my consistencies throughout my stay in SL has been the fact that my look changes constantly. I was a Dragon for a short while, an Elf for longer and though I have a default shape and I tend towards blond… I tweak and change and tweak and change. I remember at this point in SL I thought one day I’d find the perfect skin, hair and clothes and then I’d be able to settle down and build or just socialize. But that never happened because after buying land, I started blogging and that has been my focus since. Most of my early hairs and skins are gone, lost in an inventory meltdown (not sure if it was me or SL) last winter. I deleted all my early clothes, except for the little Elf/Hobbit. My Avie is the original one I started out with, I always figured I put her through too much to abandon her.I started blogging in much the same way as the rest of my my SL experience, with no knowledge but a willingness to learn. Thank you for bearing with me.

More than this….SWA & ESS

It is somewhat unusual to write about a posemaker and not include their poses but this post is about businesses in Sl which don’t fall into a preconceived idea of what we have come to expect.

The idea for this post came about when I had taken a trip over to Essential Soul Studio N Poses. I had heard about the release of some non-pose related items. I love to see designers branching out and the Guardian Sunglasses were quite attractive. (Especially the crashed version..) I also noted a beautiful Tattoo and so things started to percolate in my brain… One of the problems with showing off any Tattoo is that once clothing is added, you often don’t see much of it. I had been sent some new clothes from Sioxie Legend of Second Wave Apparel and realized Leathers would be perfect for the look. The Leather Jacket fit me really well, which is a bonus because I suck at modifying prims (I am better than I used to be but I tend to lose buttons…). And then there was also a Leather Bra and Panties… SWA is a store which always has great quality and I never know what Sioxie will make next. I took myself over to MC Studio, Bosch because in the studio there is a huge prop room.

I must also mention the sale at Exodi (where I picked up these lushious black lips..), one of my favourite boots from Kookie, League pants and the hair which is new from Clawtooth over at Tableau. And the gun…well I’ll keep that to myself, you never know when I’ll need it….

5th & Oxford, HoD, Exile and Kalnins…Review

After a season of fancy dresses, red and green, winter clothing, scarves and other sundries, I am happy to get back into street clothes. Given the hoopla of holidays and eating more food that I should, I was thinking that things would quieten down in SL.

Ha! What with Tableau opening a new build, Designers United3 and CSR (which I probably will never get to..) not to mention the consistency of designers in releasing new stuff and sales….
These were all released over the holidays and when I sat down to look at my out-of-control inventory, I loved how all of the pieces came together.

When Roslin Petion announced that she was designing some clothing around the Rocker/Punkette theme I was curious… And knowing that she’s a Jersey girl, I thought I’d get with the program and try to follow the theme (ok the 50’s but I think it still applies..).The Rebel/Rebel line from 5th & Oxford comes with Tshirts, a halter and denim skirts, available in a number of colours. The halter tops are particularly fine and the skirts come in a belt/beltless options. There is also a sofa and textures available for sale.

The Boots are a new offering from Kalnins and they were a perfect match to the outfits. As always the they come with a hud which allows you to customize the colours and metals. Kalnins footwear always fits me right out of the box and as always the detailing is suberb. The Jewellery is all from HoD (Haus of Darcy). The Nuclear Cupcake set has a little grenade squashed in the icing. Dutch Touch is having a sale right now on skins so I bought a few…Jolie is my favourite line and works nicely with my avie. Exile has some new hairs out this week (oh I love the pink eva..) and I added one of my Tableau deals to it from Lamb.

I took all of the pictures in Jet Lag Sim, a really cool retro themed area with a High School, Beauty Shop and Ice Cream Parlour amongst other things. Lots of interesting period details and furnishings as well.

Du3 – The Starlet, the Gypsy and the Child Star…

CHARACTERS: The Starlet, Gladys O’Hara ………..Alias “The Moll” Tough as nails and willing to do anything to get where she wants. The Gypsy, Gertie Dolittle……… Girl from wrong side of the tracks (with heart of gold), The Child Star ………. Alice Sourpuss, (a little long in the tooth). Detective Jack Blackwood …. always gets his man (or in this case woman).

SCENE: Kowloon, evening, streets are dangerous but one had to make do when no chaperone is to be found. Cool and dingy, an air of malfeasance hangs like a dirty cigar…
DISCOVERED: Body of Mobster, Mr. Big and Tall, found grasping a torn laundry stub with 3 names scrawled in a spidery hand. Multiple stab wounds, carrying an unused loaded colt 45. A look of extreme surprise plays across his features.

SCENE: Gladys O’Hara’s Dressing Room.
Jack Blackwood: So Gladys, it is a well known fact that you were the girlfriend of said victim. Can you tell me where you were last night? (Pulls out notebook and stubby pencil.)
Gladys: I was performing, then in my dressing room, then I turned in at my Hotel. Ask Alice and Gertie, we shared a room.

Jack Blackwood (takes note of events with a shake of the head.): I wouldn’t leave town if I were you.
Gladys: I am the headliner for a Vaudeville show, I can’t sit in a room and wait, you know where to find me anyways, my schedule is well known. (Lights cigarette and blows smoke into Detectives eyes. Gets close and wraps her arm around his waist.) I’m sure we can come to some kind of arrangement….

SCENE: Dingy Bar smelling of latent Beer and Whiskey.
Jack Blackwood: So Gertie, I understand you were once a Companion to said Victim?
Gertie: We were lovers, yes. Rat!!! I’m glad he’s gone if you ask me, sewer rats have more class than he had!! But I didn’t kill him, he deserved much worse than he got if you ask me!!!
Jack: Where were you last night around midnight? (Expecting the answer she inevitably gave…).
Gertie: You look extremely tense, have a whiskey and I can rid you of all that tension…. (Two figures seen leaving Bar an hour later…)

It must be noted that by this point Jack Blackwood can see how the whole thing is going and decides to look the other way. After all said victim had a lot of enemies and was known to police…in more ways than one, if you get my drift. Lets just say he had been getting away with murder for more years than Jack can remember…..Jack chuckles (I always get my Man!!)

SCENE: Small hotel room in a sad part of town. Jack arrives to find Alice sitting confused and disoriented, tears streaming down her cheeks, next to a steamer trunk. He helps her up and dries her tears. Takes note of similarity in features to said Victim.
Jack: So Alice, You seem sad… Did you know said Victim at all?
Alice: (snuffling and blowing her nose) No, I did not. Why did you think I knew hhh..im? (honking and coughing..)
Jack: Your name was on a laundry stub found at the scene… Where were you last night? (knowing the answer she would give…)
Alice at this point loses it completely and Jack must do what he can to calm her down, noting later that his report is lacking in coherence, and though he has been quite busy…has little to show for his efforts.

CONCLUSION: The man formerly known as Mr. Big and Tall, was the unfortunate victim of a mob hit and although great (ok no..) effort has been spent searching for his killer, no likely suspects can be found. Within a week Kowloon has a new kingpin and regardless of this Detective Jack Blackwood has been promoted to Chief Detective in charge of Mob activities. His co workers are quite envious of his new car. Passengers on the Queen Mary, Ocean liner bound for London, are delighted to note the appearance of three beautiful Ladies in one of the luxury cabins. There are whispers that they are former Russian Royalty…….(Music plays God Save the queen as curtain closes.) THE END.

Whither Canada ……. Solange!

I’m not really sure what it is about PXL skins and Solange but I was looking for clothes to match Hart Larssons skins for the contest he was recently running (congrats to the winners!!) and somehow Solange just seems to fit.

I have to say this hair by Cake is one of my faves and the Burgundy shade matches well to the Natural tone of the skin. The locations of the pictures were in Delicatessen, and HappyMood.

Christmas is such a busy time I thought I’d have a little fun with snow and lingerie… I am home for today and will be gone tomorrow so I thought I’d post a few pics that I was fooling around with last week. These pictures were taken at Calas Galadhon, a place where the Christmas Spirit truly lives. I had looked around the Grid for a spot full of Christmas spirit and found this beautiful place..the homes are decorated with lovely Victorian touches. There is Turkey cooking in the kitchens and Presents under the tree, skiing and tobogganing and skating on the pond. Tymus Tenk and Truck Meredith are the kind souls behind these 3 sims, they both wanted people to know that the Sims will be open until the end of January (Winterfest) and all are welcome to visit. I am posting this between putting on the Turkey, welcoming guests and preparing the vegetables…. I have been busy with a house full of hungry messy family and may not be posting much until the New Year. Party Jewellery…DM Designs Review

Jewellery is a small but such an integral part of every outfit that it’s easy to miss the intricacies and workmanship that goes into each piece. When DarionMonkee Levitt, of DM Designs sent along some new Christmas themed items for review I was initially a little intimidated, considering that I usually shoot full length pictures. I knew I couldn’t take that approach but I love a challenge and an opportunity to learn from experience.

What I like about the Eleni Collection (below) is the fact that though the colours say Christmas and Hanukkah, the jewellery could work any time of the year. So many of the Christmas offerings can only be worn around the season and these will match a lot of outfits. Colours are for Hanukkah – Blue&White in silver or gold, and Christmas Red&Green, Red, Green &White in silver or gold.

I shot these pictures in The Rose Theater, Angel Manor and in the store, Kaya Furniture, which has a lot of big manor House, castle type of furniture, very sturdy and substantial chairs. The dress is by SySy, Lolla with the blue adding a regal touch. And yes you noticed, I couldn’t resist buying a Curio Elf skin (snug), shoes by A-Bomb were a Twisted Krissmas sale item (100L) a great price for a colour change shoe. I’d also like to mention the Prim Lashes by Magika. These are the only lashes I can get to fit me … (And I have tried a lot.) The CiCi earrings and Diamond Fringe earrings (below) come in various styles and metals. They are quite lovely to look at and will add a nice touch to any outfit.

Party Dresses II – A La Folie, DM designs…

When I first saw this dress, Lady Monaco, from A la Folie, it was the colour that caught my eye. In a season well served by red, green, gold, white, black etc. the coral shade is very sweet. Looking for a place to shoot pics I happened upon The Chateau de Versailles, a very impressive build, though it’s not yet finished. The feeling of space is amazing and I’m looking forward to returning when all is done.

I am wearing the new Group gift from Curio (and I am having great difficulty in taking it off...) The necklace is a lovely take on the snowflake theme by DM Designs. Available in silver or gold. The dress, Lady Monaco also comes in a shorter length, in 6 colours and includes shoes in the price.

I wanted to show you the dress’s bottom detailing but it kept sinking into the floor..so I stood on a box. (Stop with the short jokes already!!) This pic (below) was taken @ Einstein.

I do like to decorate for Christmas especially when I’m at home in SL but that hasn’t really been possible this year because I just didn’t have the prims…Between my swamp home and my little photo studio, I was running on empty where prims were concerned. I put some snow in my swamp but it just wasn’t the same. One thing I have learned about the virtual world is that things change fast and last week I found myself moving, same community, different plot and rather than put everything back the same I decided that I needed a home, at least for Christmas. I found this darling little house for 25L at Mudhoney Designs and it was just perfect for my new skybox.

I also found this lovely dress at A La Folie while shopping. Its part of the POE hunt! (I wasn’t hunting but ..there it was.) Like everything pixivor Allen makes the textures are very nicely done and colour georgous. The shoes are the work of Maris Kanto of Kalnins and I never cease to be impressed by the detail and realism of his shoes. With the Hud it’s very easy to match the foot skin colour. These shoes, with so many possible colour combinations are perfect for holiday parties! I must also mention the skin It’s AtomicBambi Sara, a new skin that I found at a secret sale…(shhhh don’t tell..)

I spend far too much time in SL shopping in clothes that are a mix of things I am blogging, testing out, demo’ing and generally these things don’t even match. This became pretty apparent to me when I showed up at the opening of Trilogy Sim and saw some of the rather better decked out bloggers, designers and shoppers. It didn’t matter that no one was rezzing .. or that the lag was horrendous, and put me in mind of my younger days when I would stress myself out because I hung with a crowd that was “cool” and I never felt that way myself. This outfit follows my taste when I’m not blogging or taking pictures and just hanging out.

With all of the Christmas palaver going on, I thought it would be nice to show you some clothes that aren’t overtly seasonal. Pictures were taken in Trilogy Sim which has items from a number of designers that are exclusive to the sim, for a limited time. The theme is “The Woodcutters Daughter” which means whatever you want it to mean… The dress is from Milk Motion (from Trilogy) and I paired it with some of my favourite comfy pieces, jeans from Zaara and boots from ROT. The skin is a 50L Friday offering from Chai called L.Fauna which I am liking very much. Tatts I got from Artilleri, as part of the sale and the glasses were a gift from fabulous fashion (designer gifts from the show..) The hair is new from Hal*Hina. Newer styles are using brand new textures which give a better quality to the hair and there is a sweet dress in the camping chair for group members.

Storin,Stellar,Luck Inc., Beguiled … Review

Annah Whitfield of Storin creates some very interesting clothes. Sculptie skirts and accents plus lovely textures give a realistic and fresh look to her clothing. I have paired this outfit with new jewellery from Beguiled, belt from Fri*day (free) and boots from Stellar. The Mitts from Hucci are part of their Winterstock items. Lexi Morgan of Stellar has been a clothing designer in SL since 2004. In essence the style of design she uses was one of the first I encountered when jumping into this world. Short and sexy with a lot of skin, flirty and cheeky is how I’d characterize it. Recently I have been returning to this style because of the need to show some skin and dress at the same time. (Difficult I know…) I really don’t know anyone who does this style better than Lexi and a close look at her creations shows her experience, excellent use of textures and imagination (and creative use of small bits of clothing!) I added a belt from Luck Inc. (Another store which gives new meaning to minimalist tendancies in clothing!) and one of my favourite leggings from Truth.

Christmas is not for procrastinators. Christmas is for those who love to plan. The Martha Stewarts of the world. Oh you know the type… Shopping is done by November, cards sent out. The Tree is up well before December with lights put up on the last warm day. The Christmas baking is begun and decorating is well ..beautiful. These wonderful people are singing and dancing through the season. It is their favourite time of year. And then there’s the rest of us.

We do our best we really do, but somehow we leave everything to the last minute not thinking (and we do this every year) that everything is going to accumulate into one big pile of things we have to do right before the big day. (Something like my Inventory which by now has grown appendages and smells like cheese!) My Cards are always late (that’s a given), decorations still waiting to be put up. And lights (Ha!!) I’ve given up on the ones you put outside and go for the easy inside, attach to the window ones. I made a half hearted attempt at presents in November but still have lots to do. (Add to that 2 Birthdays).I am lucky that my Hubby always buys the big stuff for the kids (he buys too much..) So add to that the financial, personal (because who has a family where everyone gets along?) and a big dose of office parties (one guaranteed fight) and those of us who are not organized start to grumble, moan and sound like the Grinch.

Somehow, along the way, everything gets done. Christmas is a one of many December Holidays and an important part of Christian (as well as pre-Christian) Tradition. I love going to Mass at Christmas, the traditional carols, walking through the snow on Christmas day, listening to the silence born of no commerce (except for those souls travelling or visiting). And yes, in the end it brings some light to an approaching winter, which in my part of the world is brutal to say the least. I have often thought how different it must be if you live in Australia, more like a summer holiday or Mexico. And for those of different cultures who must live through the madness every year, you must think we’re insane. I am posting this early, because I know how busy we all are going to get soon. Blogging is going to be sporadic at best after this week, as I like so many others will be travelling. So today I’m making my list..things I simply have to do and can’t put off. It’s a start!

A note about the clothes. I was looking for a slightly politically incorrect Seasonal outfit. Found the Dress at Sn@tch, Boots, well you all know these boots, and I just had to have them (Anexx) and a few items sent to me for review. The leggings are new from the PlastiK come in many textures and come in varying lengths and the Necklace and Piercing are new from HoD. Aydan Darcy is going to be opening her new store .HoD., this week. Her items are also available on Xstreet. (I will let you all know when the store is open as there are some really cute items for sale here). I’ll also mention a very popular skin by Curio (which looks like you’ve been out in the cold) and new hair by Analog Dog, my current fave, I just love the colour. Binder by Reek.

Oh Bliss Couture ….Review.

I have had the sincere pleasure this week of looking upon and dressing in the garments of a very talented Designer, Amutey DeCuir of Bliss Couture. Each of these outfits were lovely in their own way and adorned thus I found myself in some very beautiful settings. And I finally took a turn around the 2009 Footwear expo, with the express desire to find shoes for my outfits. This gown, Megan comes in 6 colours @ 580L. (All outfits are available as a fat pack.) Queen Fairy Coat (black) 545L comes in 6 colours and matched wonderfully with the new hair from Lamb and boots from Kookie. Shot @ Angel Blue Sky which is a great spot for winter/Christmas Photos.

I love the shade of this sweater/pant combo, Chocolate … Ophelia, 380L and I had fun on the Brooklyn Bridge (Have I got a bridge for youuu!) in Old New York.

This Mini has been blogged a lot lately and for good reason, great texturing, style and hairiness! Posh Mohair Mini (snow) is 480L and comes with the leggings. The Plastik…Review (Or how I got my Burdy NumNums!!)

This is me if I were a band …. Ok well maybe the band-aids would be a little risque… Unfortunately I can’t sing, play an instrument or dance, so this is as close as I’ll ever come to releasing a CD. (Which no one buys anymore anyway so there!) The Plastik has released some new and very yummy Skirt/Dress/Outfits with Band-Aids. Available in 25 different colour/textures and including a set of Band-Aids in each pack (6 colours). 249L.

This is where the Burdy NumNums come in. The Plastik has also released a very cute set of Elf Ears, which come with little Burdy’s that are texture change. 299L in either Burdy’s or Burdy’s with gems. If the Burdy’s start whispering in your ear … just listen and do exactly what they say!! (They told me to go out and buy those boots from Kao..)
