More newness at The Plastik! This outfit, Prayer is an interesting mix of texture, design and is pretty versatile if you wanted to mix it up a bit with other pieces. Tons of choices for colour and texture as well (there’s 26!).



Rogan Diesel of Diesel Works sent along this pose set called Celeste. As a Blogger I rely heavily on poses as does anyone who photographs in Second Life. If you have ever made a pose,(I occasionally will fool around in Quavimator) then you know that posemaking is deceptively simple.  Because the Avatars we use don’t really work like Humans in the natural sense, a pose which will work for us (RW) often will not look natural in SL. Arms, bodies, necks and torsos can appear twisted  parts can intersect strangely and a picture that you may have been using as a reference just won’t translate. I must admit that many pose packs I own will even have these flaws. This is why you will often notice us bloggers reusing the same poses or sticking to just a few posemakers. I really enjoy working with these poses from Diesel Works. They are natural looking with subtle touches and proper use of body positioning. Diesel Works also has very nice couple poses and props, chairs etc. all incorporating this same aesthetic.



A little while after Tuli Asturias first released her Bella skins, she released this set of “Specials” FYEO (For Your Eyes only) and another set (which I have featured) FYLO (For Your Lips Only).  I love the deep yet subtle colour in these makeups. They are available in a pack of 4 make-ups per one tone, with cleavage options and brow options. Amelia , from Exile is the hair style I have used for this and my previous post. It has just the right amount of messines and texture.

Sn@tch Review….

I must admit to something silly. Whenever I am blogging, (which is always) I tend to wear whatever I am working on until the blog is done. That way I remind myself to finish and I have on the clothes, if I need to check back on them. I made a funny comment on Plurk about running around in my undies and Ivey Deschanel kindly passed me some clothing from Sn@tch to save me from my unclothed state….



Sn@tch was one of the first stores that I ever blogged (week 6 Kitteh parts) and though I had no idea what I was doing at the time it did reflect my taste, which was streetwear and urban grunge. I was a loyal member of the update group and with my old and fairly challenged computer I would gamely arrive every week to try to find the hidden hunt items. Cursing and grumbling and nursing a headache by the time I found the hidden gems, I would also look to see (and buy) what new items were instore. Ivey has continued to grow and develop her talents, the store has moved and is larger and well laid out..(No more headaches..) If I am looking for something in the urban, streetwear mode I know I can always find what I am looking for at Sn@tch. (I am a little late in blogging these, most were released in December.)

More than this….SWA & ESS

It is somewhat unusual to write about a posemaker and not include their poses but this post is about businesses in Sl which don’t fall into a preconceived idea of what we have come to expect.



The idea for this post came about when I had taken a trip over to Essential Soul Studio N Poses. I had heard about the release of some non-pose related items. I love to see designers branching out and the Guardian Sunglasses were quite attractive. (Especially the crashed version..) I also noted a beautiful Tattoo and so things started to percolate in my brain… One of the problems with showing off any Tattoo is that once clothing is added, you often don’t see much of it. I had been sent some new clothes from Sioxie Legend of Second Wave Apparel and realized Leathers would be perfect for the look. The Leather Jacket fit me really well, which is a bonus because I suck at modifying prims (I am better than I used to be but I tend to lose buttons…).  And then there was also a Leather Bra and Panties… SWA is a store which always has great quality and I never know what Sioxie will make next. I took myself over to MC Studio, Bosch because in the studio there is a huge prop room.



I must also mention the sale at Exodi (where I picked up these lushious black lips..), one of my favourite boots from Kookie, League pants and the hair which is new from Clawtooth over at Tableau. And the gun…well I’ll keep that to myself, you never know when I’ll need it….

Whither Canada ……. Solange!

I’m not really sure what it is about PXL skins and Solange but I was looking for clothes to match Hart Larssons skins for the contest he was recently running (congrats to the winners!!) and somehow Solange just seems to fit.

I have to say this hair by Cake is one of my faves and the Burgundy shade matches well to the Natural tone of the skin. The locations of the pictures were in Delicatessen, and HappyMood.

Just a little fun …..

Christmas is such a busy time I thought I’d have a little fun with snow and lingerie… I am home for today and will be gone tomorrow so I thought I’d post a few pics that I was fooling around with last week. I hope everyone had a great day yesterday and got some time to relax. I am going to be driving for six hours to visit the Griswalds for a few days ….

These pictures were taken at Calas Galadhon, a place where the Christmas Spirit truly lives. I had looked around the Grid for a spot full of Christmas spirit and found this beautiful place..the homes are decorated with lovely Victorian touches. There is Turkey cooking in the kitchens and Presents under the tree, skiing and tobogganing and skating on the pond. Tymus Tenk and Truck Meredith are the kind souls behind these 3 sims, they both wanted people to know that the Sims will be open until the end of January (Winterfest) and all are welcome to visit. I am posting this between putting on the Turkey, welcoming guests and preparing the vegetables…. I have been busy with a house full of hungry messy family and may not be posting much until the New Year. My Dress is a pretty special offering from A La Folie, La Precieuse (includes jewellery and shoes) 1000L, my hair is from Hal*Hina, my skin is Tuli , FYEO & RYLO, {oddment} Santa Lucia Crown&Candle for Twisted Krissmass, Crown Balderdash Gaudette (secret santa, thank – you!). Storin,Stellar,Luck Inc., Beguiled … Review

Annah Whitfield of Storin creates some very interesting clothes. Sculptie skirts and accents plus lovely textures give a realistic and fresh look to her clothing. I have paired this outfit with new jewellery from Beguiled, belt from Fri*day (free) and boots from Stellar. The Mitts from Hucci are part of their Winterstock items. Lexi Morgan of Stellar has been a clothing designer in SL since 2004. In essence the style of design she uses was one of the first I encountered when jumping into this world. Short and sexy with a lot of skin, flirty and cheeky is how I’d characterize it. Recently I have been returning to this style because of the need to show some skin and dress at the same time. (Difficult I know…) I really don’t know anyone who does this style better than Lexi and a close look at her creations shows her experience, excellent use of textures and imagination (and creative use of small bits of clothing!) I added a belt from Luck Inc. (Another store which gives new meaning to minimalist tendancies in clothing!) and one of my favourite leggings from Truth.

The Plastik…Review (Or how I got my Burdy NumNums!!)

This is me if I were a band …. Ok well maybe the band-aids would be a little risque… Unfortunately I can’t sing, play an instrument or dance, so this is as close as I’ll ever come to releasing a CD. (Which no one buys anymore anyway so there!) The Plastik has released some new and very yummy Skirt/Dress/Outfits with Band-Aids. This is where the Burdy NumNums come in. Rfyre, Tuli Bella and Dark Mouse Review..

When I was young (don’t ask how long ago) and an Art student, I took a number of classes in drawing Costume (as opposed to nudes, which I took as well). I always enjoyed seeing clothing from different era’s, countries and historical periods. To see this shared interest put into wearable pieces by a designer is very exciting to me and serves a purpose well beyond just clothing oneself. This outfit, Oksana by Raven Pennyfeather of Rfyre is  an interpretation of a Russian Winter/Christmas costume. Check here for more on Russian Christmas traditions and here for an historical costume.I have matched the outfit to Tuli’s newest skin Bella and Jewellery by Dark Mouse.




I decided that the only proper way to showcase this outfit was to go to Red Square. The only problem is that Red Square, Moscow Island is a Hub for Russian Sl’ers and so the whole area was pretty crowded and not my usual empty Sim. Also as it happened a lot of my pictures suffered from the black shot of death. (Usually fixable by dumping cache and re-logging.) So this pic above was the only good shot I got off.

 

What can I say about the beautiful and exquisite Bella by Tuli Asturias? Honestly, words fail me when trying to give an unbiased review of this skin. I can only say that I feel Tuli captured an incredible face, beautiful body and a deep personality within a pretty limited medium. The make-ups are truly a work of art and the body shading is so masterfully done that I can only marvel at her skill. I have heard a few people say that the skins don’t work with their Avatar and that is as it should be. This lady Bella is an individual and she has her own mysterious ways.. To my mind she is pretty perfect all around.



If you see me around the Grid you may notice I’m not wearing very much today…Darn it but I look good though! Tones in Bella range from Dark Tan, Tan, Sunkissed, Fair and Pale. These pics were taken in Oubliette, which is dressed up in its frosty winter finery.



This necklace and earrings are a new offering from Dark Mouse. I think they capture the lustrous metal texture splendidly and compliment well the gown. Speaking about the Outfit, Oksana, the skirt comes in two skirt lengths with slightly different tailoring and pattern. All of the textures are rendered with care and a high degree of precision. The headdress is unusual to say the least, and I’m not sure I’d wear it to any SL functions but I can appreciate the artistry and beautiful features as well as the attention to detail. Through a little bit of research on the subject, I found a whole slew of headdresses of Russian origin and this seems to have been a very important element of Historical dress (which has some Byzantine influence). I had to really think about a perfect hair for the headdress and found it in Maitreya.  Most Maitreya hair is not high at the top which makes them perfect for hats and such. Skin Fair Wrap Up

Whenever there is a Fair or Expo there is always a question in my mind as to how comprehensive to be in terms of how much to cover. Does one look at a few skins and cover them really well or try to look at everything available? What with there being two skin shows within five weeks of each other, it is easy to get over skinned. After covering a few skins I felt bad because I still had some lovely skins to show. Suffice it to say, some of these skins worked better than others with my shape, and I used my own shape in all of them, but without any more ado…..







I am letting the skins here speak for themselves. All have good qualities depending on what you look for yourself in a skin. Of all the skins here, some were given for review, some were group gifts, and some were Dollarbies. Elves or Fairies? A la Folie..Review

A La Folie is a shop that has recently come to my attention. pixivor Allen is a talented clothing designer who makes dresses of all kinds, from the short and flirty to long and elegant. I would say her design is in the French style, with impeccable taste, detail and an overall freshness to her designs. She likes to work with floral details and everything is wonderfully finished. This is the first of a couple of dresses I have to show you and rather than try to cram too much into one post I have opted to present them in an more orderly fashion.

Pumpkin flower comes with the dress, hair flower, shoes and vines. The outfit works so well with a Fantasy theme, that I paired the clothes with wings from Studio Sidhe, ears from SLink, hair from Exile and a Fairy AO from AnaMations.

I had forgotten how much I missed my Elvish ways!!! Pics were shot at Oubliette. This sim is always beautiful and tends to change through the seasons. Many of the buildings and features (like this Pumpkin House) are for sale.

SySy, Dark Mouse and Blowpop…Review

Some things just work, no fuss, no bother, they quietly do their job without making a huge production. This does not mean that there is not a great deal of skill and effort put into the creation or execution, it just means that the result appears to be effortless.

This post started out being about the pants. What’s so great about these pants? Well for one thing, they look great. They fit like RL pants and they’re the type of pant which will literally go with half of my wardrobe. I don’t own one pair of pants like these. I own jeans, lots of jeans, I own capri’s, tons of them. Skirts I have by the boatload… Nice pants are a rare thing in SL. Walk into any store in SL and you will find most stores have every type of top, sweater, cami, dress, legging but a nice pair of dress pants are an uncommon treat. SySy Chapman is a designer I know more for her lovely dresses, her kind soul, and now Pants!!! (And the sweater is very attractive also.)The sweaters sell for 75L and the pants sell for 125L. Both are available in a fatpack.

Mouse Mimistrobell, of Dark Mouse has released some new products. Hair, Jewellery and Belts. Again everything fits and works effortlessly. The hair is attractive, the right blond, and the Jewellery matches …well pretty much anything. Devine Deco, the bangles and earrings, sell for 100L. And the hair Cyntra sells for 100L per colour and 600L for a fatpack. Belts are 200L and come in a pack of 4 colours. The store is nicely laid out with an open concept feel and the products are well designed and very reasonably priced.

I think you must know that I love Blowpop skins, especially Elizabeth. It’s hard to be objective about what I feel is just about the best hand-drawn skin on the grid. It is a skin drawn with sensitivity and an eye to the little details. And yes I was dancing a jig when I realized that Annyka had released new makeups. This is my favourite, called Persia. I love the plum tones and was quite happy to see a shade in the cooler reds. A single skin sells for 900L and the whole series in one tone sells for 3200L. Pics shot at Namaste Isle.

Leafy Shapes and Pink Fuel..Review

When I first started looking at the shapes from the Skin and Shape Expo, I admit I had a lot of OMG moments. I am not sure that you can really review shapes in the same way you review clothing or skins. A shape either works for you or it doesn’t. It is also important to buy modifiable shapes and if possible different versions or sizes of that shape. Taking a look at Leafy shapes, I realized that they are probably the closest to my own shape and answered the question I always ask myself. Would I wear it?

I paired the Shapes from Leafy up with Pink Fuel’s new skin, Skye. In these pictures I am wearing Leafy Shape Mona with some of the make-ups available at the Expo. I had expected Sky to be a similar skin to Raine, a skin I reviewed back in August and at first glance it is. The face is similar with the lips being softer and more natural but the biggest change occurs in the body. Raine’s body was softly shaded with detail on the understated side. Skye has the full on body shading one has come to expect from the top skinners in SL. Lots of detail and great overall look paired with Mochi Milena’s excellent make-ups makes this skin outstanding. Skins are 900L for a single skin and 2800L for five. There are 20 make-ups to choose from with possibly more to come in Milk, Honey, Chai and Tea.

I compared my shape with the Leafy Shapes. The Leafy shapes are well proportioned and generally realistic if a little idealized. (As I would hope mine generally is also.) Shapes come with various brow shapers and body sizes.

I compared my Face (wearing Raine) to the faces of the Leafy shapes. They are quite nice I think. The eyes are smaller, and more naturally shaped than mine. Its a pain to fit lashes to my eyes.. I made my eyes on the larger size because I photograph from a distance and I wanted the eyes to show better. My nose is bigger and my head is rounder. My shape has been developed over about a year and I am still modifying it to accommodate different skins. My Favourite Leafy face is Mona..nice proportions on that face.

Just a thought when buying shapes; If you are going for a particular look, ie. from the pictures in the shape store, make sure you get a styling card in with the shapes, be prepared to spend more money on the skin, hair and clothes. The shape is like the frame for all the additions you make to it, and will look radically different depending on what skin you put on it. I really enjoy experimenting with my look and look forward to seeing all the pieces come together. I generally follow my own style but I know a lot of people like to know what they are getting in terms of an overall package. Leafy Shapes come in two types the no modify shapes are 350L and the Modify shapes are 699L.

Trubble and Skin Within….Review

Today I want to show you some truly beautiful ladies courtesy of Tracy Rubble of “Trubble” and Ayesha Bisiani of “Skin Within”. I have been wanting to review Tracy’s designs for a while now and finally was able to return to her store last week to take a look at her designs. Her store has been completely updated and I think does a wonderful job highlighting her ever growing line of clothing.

This gown “Ana” in Tanzanite, is a sneak peek at a new colour to be unveiled at the Vanity Universe Glamour Expo on the 3rd of October. Blue and White are currently available at her mainstore. This lady (Shape and Skin from Skin Within) is called Ahawi and she is quite a beauty. The strong features and physical strength really compliments the dress better I think my own shape would have and I really enjoyed working with all the Charity skins that Ayesha sent.

All Pictures were taken at Heart Reef Resort which is based on the Island of Santorini. This outfit really caught my eye called Gypsy and the lady is called Amelie…You may have seen her.. In all of these pictures I have used the shapes which are available for each skin. All are available at the Shape and Skin expo.

Her name is Alasia and she is an interesting mix of eastern beauty with a modern sensibility. I love the shape of her eyes and mouth. This dress also comes in a pink version. All of the pieces worked well in terms of how everything fit and photographed.

These pretty tops are available in store with a skirted version of one of the colours.

What can I say about these skins from Skin Within? I think that they have some of the most beautiful realistic shading on the grid, and the skins themselves have always made me think of Amazons. There has been real effort made to be true to the ethnicity of each line and they have many unique qualities to recommend them. The shapes match this sensibility well, for they are powerful, beautiful women with strength and personality. Lets just say I am very impressed and will be taking a closer look at the entire line later.
