Cutie2..

Continuing with my earlier post… I am loving this hair from Truth, Danielle. The eyes are from Chai, they have a lighted prim attachment that gives a little bit of soul (called a soul prim).
 

This new pose set from Diesel Works is very expressive, with fairly complex body movements beautifully rendered. I am still loving Atomic Bambi - Apple’s red lips, perfect for Valentine’s Day (or Anti-Valentine’s). And all the Jewellery from Eolande comes in various metals and has colour change gems. The Glazed Heart set comes with two necklaces, one transfer, perfect for gifting!



There is a cute Candy Heart set in Eolande’s with the Mouth Candy set up as a Gatcha in a vendor. 25L gets you a random (and transferrable) Candy with saying, some nice…and some not so nice! There is also a hunt with bracelets from the sets that I am showing you, as the prize. Below is a very nice Valentine’s set called Heart’s Devotion. If you are wondering, I am laying in a bowl of soup I came across in the Lemondrops Forest. There is a hunt going on at this time..

Symphony Skins … A Review

Before I started speaking about the skins I wanted to mention 2 places that I remember from my early days in SL. Nyte ‘n Day is probably the first real store I shopped in while a noobie.. and it was and still is many an avies first experience in shopping. Well, Nyte ‘n Day is having a big sale, 20-50% off. The clothing is still very well made, versatile and there is lots to choose from. Another store I discovered and loved was Junwave, a hair store with low prim Japanese style hair. When I first discovered the store, it was fairly small, had low priced hair and offered really cute styles. Since that time the store has moved, retextured the hair and added many new styles. I love it because the hair is still very reasonably priced and I can pick up a fatpack.

Claire Harford of Symphony Skins has just released a new skin tone from her SSV3 line of skins. It is a dark tone named base and comes in 12 makeup shades. Half of the skins are in the day range and half are in the night range. Day is more natural with some freckling while night is shinier with more make-up applied. (Top and Bottom) SSV3 Base 24 Carat Day/Night, Candy Day/Night, Cornflower Day/Night.

Single skin packs are reasonably priced at 600L while Day or Night packs are priced at 2500L.All Skins come with 3 brow options and two cleavage options. (Top and Bottom) SSV3 Base Moss Day/Night, Purple Haze Day/Night, Steel Day/Night.

I demo’d these skins when the first few tones were released and I liked them. I decided to take a look at the skins as a whole to better get a feel for them. I took a skin from each tone. These skins are the first ones I remember (besides Japanese skins) having the cleavage option. Overall the skin is very nice. The face is more neutral than many of the skins you see around the grid but this is a good thing because I know a lot of people who prefer not to have a face which looks like someone else. I took a close look for any flaws and I only found a very slight seam on the left side which was common on all the skins. It is not something that would stop me from buying the skin. There is some hand drawing (lips) and they are rendered very well. Overall the make-ups are really lovely and the body is quite pretty.This is the kind of skin which I think would match a lot of types of clothing.

Skin Fair - [PXL] Creations July..Review

It takes a special skin to make me want to strip down to very little, grab a sword and look for adventure. I found my fancy turning to fighting Dragons (which is funny really because I am one..at times) or saving a poor prince or two from a tower. And though I don’t usually hang out in lingerie and silks stores, this is what I found myself doing… This look is pretty different for me but its safe to say I really like it. I haven’t tried it with my blond hair..but the paler tones should work. July is here… and I’m ignoring the fact that snow will soon be blanketing my corner of the world.

As I am covering the skin fair this year, I really wanted to take a look at some of the skinmakers who have been on my radar for a while but haven’t been reviewed by me. Hart Larsson is an extremely talented  skinmaker and I think I have demo’d almost every skin he has put out in the last year or so. I love looking at the amazing progression and increasing quality of so many skinners out there. I was lucky to be able to get into the skin fair on Friday, which enabled me to grab as many of the demo’s as I could and get out before the lag begun. I still haven’t looked at them all..

A close look at the skin reveals realistic photosourced detail throughout. Areas like the knees, belly, clavicle, hands and back are all beautifully rendered, as well as the bum and ankles, hands and feet. Details like the pelvic bone and upper chest are not usually visible but here they are. Another feature that I like is the fact that there are no fuzzy or out of focus areas on the body and no seams that I could find.

The face is shaded around the cheekbones and the lips are realistic and well proportioned. I love the nose, it has a real shape and good highlighting. The tones of the face match the tones on the body. I tried a couple of my modded shapes (face mod) and I found most of them fit the skin very well, something many people (who don’t like to mod their shape) can appreciate. At this time only 3 tones are available (at the skin fair) for purchase. I had a preview of the Dark Tan, and Dark shades and they are lovely as well. If you are a fan of the darker tones, keep your eyes open, I’m sure you won’t have long to wait.

There are a number of different eye make-ups available; Nude, Spring, Smokey, Cat eye, and Dark. Couple this with the lipsticks, Nude, Pink, Red, Rose, Coffee, Passion, Pale and Wine and there is a huge choice. The eye make-ups are available with all the lips, in a fat-pack of 8 for 5000L. Individual skins sell for 1000L. One skin comes with 3 eyebrow options, 2 cleavage options and a freckle option.                                                                              
Pictures were taken under differing windlight conditions. I have to say if ever there was a skin that loves WL this is it. The Outfit is from Solange and is called Highland Fantasy and comes with all the extras seen in the pictures, as well as a longer skirt, earrings and more attachments. The boots are new from Kalnins, and has all the customizable features one expects from this store. 800L(I hope to show you more of them later.)

Leafy Shapes and Pink Fuel..Review

When I first started looking at the shapes from the Skin and Shape Expo, I admit I had a lot of OMG moments. I am not sure that you can really review shapes in the same way you review clothing or skins. A shape either works for you or it doesn’t. It is also important to buy modifiable shapes and if possible different versions or sizes of that shape. Taking a look at Leafy shapes, I realized that they are probably the closest to my own shape and answered the question I always ask myself. Would I wear it?

I paired the Shapes from Leafy up with Pink Fuel’s new skin, Skye. In these pictures I am wearing Leafy Shape Mona with some of the make-ups available at the Expo. I had expected Sky to be a similar skin to Raine, a skin I reviewed back in August and at first glance it is. The face is similar with the lips being softer and more natural but the biggest change occurs in the body. Raine’s body was softly shaded with detail on the understated side. Skye has the full on body shading one has come to expect from the top skinners in SL. Lots of detail and great overall look paired with Mochi Milena’s excellent make-ups makes this skin outstanding. Skins are 900L for a single skin and 2800L for five. There are 20 make-ups to choose from with possibly more to come in Milk, Honey, Chai and Tea.

I compared my shape with the Leafy Shapes. The Leafy shapes are well proportioned and generally realistic if a little idealized. (As I would hope mine generally is also.) Shapes come with various brow shapers and body sizes.

I compared my Face (wearing Raine) to the faces of the Leafy shapes. They are quite nice I think. The eyes are smaller, and more naturally shaped than mine. Its a pain to fit lashes to my eyes.. I made my eyes on the larger size because I photograph from a distance and I wanted the eyes to show better. My nose is bigger and my head is rounder. My shape has been developed over about a year and I am still modifying it to accommodate different skins. My Favourite Leafy face is Mona..nice proportions on that face.

Just a thought when buying shapes; If you are going for a particular look, ie. from the pictures in the shape store, make sure you get a styling card in with the shapes, be prepared to spend more money on the skin, hair and clothes. The shape is like the frame for all the additions you make to it, and will look radically different depending on what skin you put on it. I really enjoy experimenting with my look and look forward to seeing all the pieces come together. I generally follow my own style but I know a lot of people like to know what they are getting in terms of an overall package. Leafy Shapes come in two types the no modify shapes are 350L and the Modify shapes are 699L.

Trubble and Skin Within….Review

Today I want to show you some truly beautiful ladies courtesy of Tracy Rubble of “Trubble” and Ayesha Bisiani of “Skin Within”. I have been wanting to review Tracy’s designs for a while now and finally was able to return to her store last week to take a look at her designs. Her store has been completely updated and I think does a wonderful job highlighting her ever growing line of clothing.

This gown “Ana” in Tanzanite, is a sneak peek at a new colour to be unveiled at the Vanity Universe Glamour Expo on the 3rd of October. Blue and White are currently available at her mainstore. This lady (Shape and Skin from Skin Within) is called Ahawi and she is quite a beauty. The strong features and physical strength really compliments the dress better I think my own shape would have and I really enjoyed working with all the Charity skins that Ayesha sent.

All Pictures were taken at Heart Reef Resort which is based on the Island of Santorini. This outfit really caught my eye called Gypsy and the lady is called Amelie…You may have seen her.. In all of these pictures I have used the shapes which are available for each skin. All are available at the Shape and Skin expo.

Her name is Alasia and she is an interesting mix of eastern beauty with a modern sensibility. I love the shape of her eyes and mouth. This dress also comes in a pink version. All of the pieces worked well in terms of how everything fit and photographed.

These pretty tops are available in store with a skirted version of one of the colours.

What can I say about these skins from Skin Within? I think that they have some of the most beautiful realistic shading on the grid, and the skins themselves have always made me think of Amazons. There has been real effort made to be true to the ethnicity of each line and they have many unique qualities to recommend them. The shapes match this sensibility well, for they are powerful, beautiful women with strength and personality. Lets just say I am very impressed and will be taking a closer look at the entire line later.

Tomorrow bring us the start of the Skin/Shape Expo ‘09. For someone who is a certified Skin Addict this is both wonderful…and dangerous. I know I will be taking several trips over there to see my Favourites as well as new or newtome skins and shapes. And that opens a new door for me also as I will be taking a close look at shapes and how skins and shapes work together. From what I have seen there are a lot of beautiful skins and shapes just waiting to be seen …. I am a slow blogger though and my weekends are really action packed. I am going to my first NFL football game on Sunday, crossing the border and gearing up for my first tailgate party (woooo..yaaaa!!!)Pics shot in the Wastelands.

Vampyre…….

How long it is I have wandered ?..I do not know. And my memory of things are fuzzy. There was a party, that is clear and I remembered dancing with a tall dark stranger. It all comes back like a dream. Like a tune once heard but not entirely forgotten. That is this building? It looks familiar but strange and I am cold, oh so cold. A cold I cannot shake. I will enter here, it looks warm and inviting.

The dark is not frightening to me, I can see very well and the candles are far too bright for my sensitive eyes. My lips have a taste and something is dripping down my chin. I wipe away blood, odd that is, just odd. I remember waking up in a cold dark place and I was alone, the rats didn’t even come near me. The way that led me out was full of nightmares. I was hungry oh so hungry. I cannot even say what I did or how long I hungered before I had my fill. What is this place? I cannot remember, I used to come here not long ago. I was so young then. I do remember I always felt safe here. I am starting to see things, the dark is turning to shadows.

I am tired, tired of the hunger, tired of the fear and the cold. I must rest here, but there is something I have forgotten, he told me something about the light. Ah what was it, I feel so tired. My energy is draining away. It seems so long since I saw the sun. I must get a look through these church windows, that’s it! It’s a church.I am fading..I can feel it now and the memories are returning. I have lived like this for..how long? Long enough that my family has turned to dust as I shall soon be. I am dying…ah that’s a joke, I am already dead.

Tuli Asturias has added some gorgeous new Gothic make-ups to her Hope line. I love when a classy skin like Hope adds some new possibilities for use within SL. Below are just some of them….

Pink Fuel Raine…Review

A weeks holiday at a cottage is a wonderful thing….Peace and quiet, sitting on the dock in the morning with a cuppa tea, campfires, no phone (don’t laugh I do not own a cellphone) no ‘puter, utter silence at night (Ok so, images of horror movies running through my head for the first night..). MMmmmmm, ok so now back to reality… I first took notice of Pink Fuel Skins at the HarajukuBox Skin fair a while ago, intending to take a shot over there to demo the new line called Raine. When I did, I was impressed, especially with the makeups. After buying a skin and wearing it around, Mochi Milena was kind enough to send me her skins to review.

I am wearing clothes and shoes from a lovely store called Little Girl. A store that I have been trying to track down for a while, as it doesn’t show up in search. It sells clothes, pets, shoes, skins and other sundries with a modern and traditional oriental flavour.

Raine comes in 5 tones; Cream, Almond, Honey, Chai and Toffee. The skins are quite fair and I am wearing Starlett makeup. A note about the hairs. When deciding which hair to buy for this shoot I wanted hair that comes in a mixed colour pack. So many hairs come packed in Blondes or other colours, and I didn’t want to buy a fatpack. Tiny Bird and Raspberry Aristocrat are wonderful in that the hair is great and comes in mixed packs.

There is such a range of Make-ups, I included only 10 of the 21, but they’re all lovely. The skin fit me right from the box, no tweaking, all the features suited right away. This skin can go with a variety of looks like Neko, Grunge, Retro, Fashinista, Emo, Lolita, Kawaii and cute. Clockwise from figure; Untamed, Starlett, Vivi, Afterparty, Astronaut, Classic, Dolly Tears Pink, Scene, Liquid Sugar and Pinksie.

I was so taken with the make-ups that I almost forgot to look at the skin, which would be a mistake because I like the overall quality and understated shading, I could see areas that seem photosourced as well as hand drawn, but all the parts fit together nicely. Every skin comes with light or dark eyebrows and freckles. A single skin is 750L, a set is 2800L (5 or 6 Make-ups) and a full fatpack is 8000L (21 Make-ups). There are also several shapes for sale, Mochi also sells some interesting toys, avatars (and tinies) “Yeti”, Bears, toys, Shoulder pets, Poses, mouth candy and backpacks. The store also has a Lucky Chair, while I was writing this I won Angel and Devil Panda’s!

Enchanted…

Normally when a new skin comes into my life I walk around the grid for a couple of days to get a feel for it. I tweak the face to fit the skin better and try to get a feel for the personality and how this skin fits with my Avie. “Enchanted” is the new skin from Cupcakes and at first glance has much in common with Seduction, another Cupcakes skin. I remember Seduction's lips primarily and these lips are still large and beautiful. I found my Avie had a sad look to her so the lips got smaller and corners turned up a little more than usual. She had something of a classic beauty look to her which is fine though I like my blonds to have an edge. I was running around shopping…(so many sales!!) when I spied this dress from A-Bomb and with the shoes..I realized all it needed was some funky hair and I’d have an 80’s Debbie Harry feel.

The body has some nice shading and its understated, soft with a lovely belly. There are areas across the body where the tone is a little uneven but could be interpreted as light tanlines. The face is especially well shaded with contouring around the cheeks, lips and eyes. I have shown the freckled versions as I love the texturing, freckles are lightly sprinkled around the body.

The skin comes in four tones; Cream, Apricot, Sienna, Sepia, and Cioccolato. All my pics are with the Sienna Tone, a light tan.

There are 11 Make-ups which run the gamut from Bare to Ruby. Eye make-ups are pretty, and lips range from very glossy to matte. Left side; Bare Freckles, Berry Freckles, Fairy Freckles, Glamorous Freckles, Golden Freckles. Right Side; Midnight Freckles, Natural Freckles, Princess freckles, Ruby Freckles, Smokey Freckles. (I left out Midori Freckles, oops!) This picture doesn’t do justice to the gorgeous eyes and lips, it is well worth demoing just to see them. Individual skins are 1000L with fatpacks going at 5000L. Poses are from Flowey, who is having a 50% sale this week and I found the Mike and animation (Falta’s Animation) for free in the sim where I took the pictures, Sinners Heaven. The Hair is from Truth and the shoes from A-Bomb as well, are texture change which makes them pretty versatile.

Moon River....

Roslin Petion and CJ Carnot only have themselves to blame. After waiting for weeks with bated breath to see the new skins…. I suffered a relapse to Diva-ness upon glancing at the name of the new Line, Audrey… I have spent the last day or two channeling my inner Audrey but I stopped myself before things turned really creepy. The funny thing is I was in New York last March (after Twenty Years) standing outside of Tiffany’s and I did not go in… Some things are better left imagined..

These two collaborators, who have been part of some of the best loved Skin lines in SL, closed up shop several weeks ago in order to introduce not only skins but a whole new Brand, 5th & Oxford. Roslin has said that they will over the next few months be introducing a whole range of products which will fit with the concept of a lifestyle brand.

Audrey comes in four lines at this point; Fresh Freckles, Fresh, Smolder and Smokey. Like in the past, the make ups are impeccable and if you have owned Fleur or TAP skins before, you will not be disappointed. What has changed about the make ups now are the changes which have occurred in the body. The lips are far more defined, with a variety of lipsticks and shading. On the face the nose is nicely rendered as is the lip area. The body as a whole is beautifully shaded with details, like the belly, back, neck and bum each having it’s own character. The only area missing detail to my view is the ankle but it seems to be a problem area for a lot of skin makers as the ankle can look knobby if done wrong. My overall view of the skin is that the shading and details are sensitively rendered, coupled with the makups which as usual are stunning.

There are three tones for each skin, fair, Med and Tan. Medium being my favorite. Each skin is 600L with 6 skins going for 2400L (with a store card). Demo’s available. Because I was channelling Audrey and because Ivalde was having a photo Contest (which I believe I missed by a whole week), I went looking for something she might have worn. Early 60’s old Hollywood….

Maya…

Last but not least, in the series of new Blowpop skins by Annyka Bekkers is Maya. I have tried in all these reviews to capture something of the spirit of these skins with clothes and hair,while keeping my own shape and find a look that I was comfortable with.

Like the others, Maya comes in four tones. My Fave was the third.

This is the third tone and the make-ups are available with 2 lip options. Maya C Tone Bare2, Au Contraire2, Mink2, Van Bean2, Grenadine2 and Queen of the Night2.

While shooting Carmen in Drowsy sim, I came across a store that I realized had the perfect clothes for what I wanted for Maya , Kurotsubaki. As well I bought the Hat and Hair there. I wanted to capture something of the comfort and casualness of summer clothes. Cotton, bright colours and a Hat to protect me from the sun. Carmen….

When I first took a look at this skin along with the other new generation of Blowpop skins it probably grabbed my attention a little less than the others. That’s because I was wearing it with my usual fair hairs and clothing. I started looking at hairs and clothes to match this skin and realized that it needed big bold colours and style. It goes really well with dark hair and as I have used here, strong reds. This is a firey attention grabbing skin which suits an avatar with a strong personality.

A medium tanned skin Carmen comes in four tones.

The make-ups are bold with 6 different eye and lip combinations and each comes with 2 lip options. B Tone-Bare2, Ay Candela2, Clavel Rosa2, La Mosca Azul2, Hipnotico2, La Cereza2.

While searching my inventory for clothing to match the skin I came up short….So in reviewing stores I wanted to visit I came up with the unlikely name “Rotton Toe”. As I like weird names and store concepts I teleported over there only to find exactly what I was looking for and these great shoes by Shadenfreude topped off the look perfectly. The hair from House of Munster, which is one of my faves from the fair, is one of the few which would fit with the collar of the top.
